  1. That's funny Adam! I'm a sucker for puns! Robert S.
  2. Adam, I'd be interested in both sets of side marker lights. All 4 of mine are rusted through, but the lenses are good and I have extra lenses. Have you scrapped the '72 yet? I'll send you a PM now. Robert S.
  3. Chris, Congratulations on buying #201! I've watched with anticipation to see who ended up with #201 and glad it found a good home! Like Carl said, I'm surprised it didn't go faster, but it sounds like it just wasn't the right time for most people here. Had I not buy a '71 240Z last summer, I would've had the resources to buy #201 and complete the project. Congratulations again and please keep us updated on the progress! Robert S.
  4. Ed, The new blue you chose looks great! Look forward to seeing the fully assembled car! Robert S.

Bart, Not a bad looking Series 1, it's also too bad the dash is covered with a half dash cap. After all the time and money the spent on the car, why not restore the dash or get a new one? Robert S.
  6. Guys, This isn't Datsun related, but an interesting article about the first Mustang sold. The First Mustang Ever Sold Still In Original Family's Hands The article stated the car hasn't been appraised yet since the restoration, so I wonder what the value is? Robert S.
  7. Stephen, There are a few photos on the Datsun Classifieds ad: Serial number 201 1970 datsun 240z, 1969, $ 3,900.00 Bill's contact information is also listed, but you may want to confirm that with Carl. Robert S.
  8. Carl, If I wouldn't have bought my car last year, I would have the resources now to buy Bill's #201. I've been watching to see who acquires it next and hopefully the next owner can complete the restoration. Robert S.
  9. Guys, Here's a couple of articles that discuss the recent sale of a Ferrari 275 GTB that sold at auction for $27.5M this weekend. I'll never own a Ferrari, but a few of those body lines reminds me of my favorite Datsun! 10. Jay, You've got a great car! I'm always glad to see another Z in the Midwest too! Robert S.
  11. Ed, Thanks for the information on the fenders from Nissan. I'll have to stop by my local Nissan dealer and see if they can get me the new fenders. I already have the Nissan part numbers: 63100-n4700 (right) and 63101-n4700 (left). These should be the same part numbers you used, for the left fender at least. I wish Nissan still stocked the hood, but from what I've read on this forum, their hood inventory is gone. Robert S.
  12. Ed, I enjoyed the latest photos and really admire your body working skills! I'll need a new pair of fenders and have considered finding a used pair that need minor work. However, I haven't seen any good fenders for sale in my area and think it may be best to just spring for a new pair from Nissan. Did you have any issues ordering the fender from your local Nissan dealer? Did they charge you shipping on the fender? Also, about how long did it take to get in? Thanks, Robert S.
  13. Sorry, my comment was posted twice! Robert S.
  14. The floor pan set from MSA is manufactured by Charlie at Zedd Findings and currently runs $364.95: Motorsport! Premium Floor Pan Kit, 70-8/74 240Z-260Z Coupe - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts MSA offers a 10% discount on items for CZCC members. When you order, just mention you are member of this club and your member ID. I bought my floor pan set from MSA during the spring sale. It really depends on your goal and how much you would like to spend. If you're not concerned with the floor pans looking original, making your own will be the least expensive route. Robert S.
  15. Robert, Welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place for working on a 240Z! It looks like your car has bumper guards from an early 260Z. I picked up a '71 240Z last year to restore and it looks like your car has less rust damage. This spring I got the repair panels from MSA, including the floor pans and frame rails. Like your car, mine hadn't run in years. It was probably a decade since the engine last run and the car hadn't been driven in about 20 years. When we finally got the engine running, I was surprised how well it sounded! Enjoy working on your Z and I look forward to seeing the progress! Robert S.
  16. Mike, Like Blue said, I also stopped during the trip home to make sure everything was secure and no wheel bearings were overheating. Since the previous owner had used a car dolly to transport the car, I felt confident it would be fine. I also didn't have any issues with stuck brakes although this can be a problem with cars that are parked for years. One thing I forgot to mention, which I didn't know until I used a car dolly, is you shouldn't back up the car dolly with the car attached to the dolly. On the dolly I used, the platform that the tires sit on pivets on a large bolt to allow cornering. Going in reverse can cause the dolly and car to jack knive. Let us know how the trip works out! Robert S.
  17. Mike, I towed my 240Z about 180 miles home using a car dolly and my 1997 Nissan truck (4 cylinder, automatic): http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/members/ehlersrs-albums-1971-datsun-240z-picture53969-took-several-attempts-line-car-up-car-dolly.html The car was located in the owner's garage at the end of the smooth driveway. Since the car wasn't running, we pushed the car up onto the car dolly. The long driveway allowed us to pick up momentum to get the car up and it did take several attempts to get the car on straight. My truck weighs approximately 2900 lbs (with the topper) and it has a Class II hitch mounted to the frame. I estimate the trailer weighed 500 lbs and the 240Z weighs around 2300 lbs. The bed of the truck was also loaded with car parts that weighed maybe 200 lbs. That comes to a vehicle weighing 3100 lbs. and a towing weight of 2800 lbs. I didn't have any problems getting back home, except my truck had difficulty making it up several hills on the interstate and that was with the gas pedal to the floor! My truck hasn't had any problems towing over a ton of weight before, so I figured it could handle towing the 240Z. For your situation, 20 miles isn't that far to tow a vehicle. I would be extra cautious about towing the 240Z with a light car, however with the engine and tranny removed, that does remove a lot of weight from the 240Z. It would be better to find someone that has a bigger vehicle, but if you decide to use your car and a dolly, be sure to take a route where you can travel at slower speeds and leave lots of extra space for stopping. Do you plan to borrow the car dolly? I'm sure UHaul won't rent a car dolly to you if they knew what the towing combination was going to be. I rented a car dolly from a local guy who rents it out, because I'm sure UHaul wouldn't have approved of my truck. As for getting the car onto the dolly, if it's located on a smooth surface, you shouldn't have any problems pushing it on otherwise you can use a come along, which will take longer. Even without the bumper, there should be a place to connect the come along. Besides, it's just a parts car! I hope everything works out of you! Robert S.

  19. Great article! I didn't realize Mr. K was 104 years old! Robert S.
  20. Will, Looks like a nice Z and glad to hear the rust is minimal. What are your plans for the car? Robert S.

Frank (d240zx2) in Houston had a nasty wreck last year and it was the demise of #721, but he came out fine. You can read about his experience at this message thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/misc-s30/45465-hls30-00721-will-soon-razor-blades.html Also, 5thhorsemann wrecked his S30 earlier this year: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/misc-s30/48734-zs-really-can-fly-unfortunately.html Robert S.
  22. Welcome Brian and you found a nice looking Z! Glad you were able to find it so close to home too! Robert S.
  23. Thanks Dan! I've saved off your updated wiring diagram for future reference. Robert S.

John, Welcome to the Z club and congratulations on your new ride! As others have said, it looks like you got a fair deal for a nice car. Also, orange is my favorite color on the 240Z's! Robert S.

Luke, I graduated UTC in 2005 with a computer science degree. For the last two years I worked on campus in the Media Resources (AV) department. I only made about $500 a month, but working part-time allowed me to focus more on classes. I really liked attended UTC. What are you studying? Were you able to look at the 280ZX? I checked Craigslist and from your description it's the one in Benton. Robert S.
