I hope you are using an approved start up cam lube. Wear like that can start on the very initial engine startup after rebuild if cam does not have proper cam lube at time of install. I have seen this happen a couple of times. Sorry to hear this happened.
  3. Thanks again for this info. I plan to order the 2+2 unit and remove and cut to fit my coupe door. Will let everyone know how this goes. Thanks again.
  4. Thanks for that info. Does the rubber look OK as far as matching the old piece? Thanks JCB
  5. You can find the rubber only listed at Datsunlandsocal.com for $58 for the pair but for the coupe only. I then found a thread that said that they do not fit very well. Because of that thread I have not ordered from them. They also list the fuzzy strips for $38 a pair. JCB
  6. The BD catalog lists "molding and seal" for both coupe and 2+2. I don't understand why the 2+2 is $20 and the coupe is priced at $50. Makes me think someone made a mistake and reversed the price. Although the early 240 is priced at $50. Healeyalt, if you order the squeegee for your 2+2 let me know what you get . Thanks, JCV
  7. Thanks Jim A for the response. I looked on BD and I would ask the same thing that Healeyalt is asking. What would be the difference between the 2+2 and the coupe as far as the rubber portion is concerned? I feel sure that he is correct about the metal portion not included for the 2+2 item. Difference in cost is substantial. Anyone? Thanks, JCB
  8. jfa, Where did you get the squeegee rubber? I want to do this but am not sure where to order the rubber from. This is for a 78/280 coupe. Thanks, JCB

tlorber, Thanks for the reply. Have you ordered any from anyone else. I think I have seen a listing for a squeege with the stainless attached but they were pretty expensive and I do not remember who the company was. Any ideas for other manufacturers?

Well. I have the console out of the car while I replaced carpet and seats and headliner and ect. There is plug for the light in the console that is for the ashtray. There is also a ground wire with a bullet end that looks (at the time anyway) like it plugs into that console light plug. Yes, that's what I did. At some point in time, not sure when, I stuck the ground into that plug. When I was tracing the GW wire looking for the short circuit I discovered a branch going to the console and that it was connected to a black wire. Who the hell did that????????????. Some dumb sum bitc-. So everyone have a good laugh on me. An please know that I am 73 years old. JB

Hey Steve,Mike ,Leon, I found it but I will never disclose the stupid thing I had done to cause the direct ground. No one should be this dumb. Thanks for all your help. I really enjoy this forum and learning about Z cars. JB

Thanks Mike and Steve. Yes I'm working on the tail light, side marker light circuit. I am trying to isolate the short to one section of the circuit. It turned cold this afternoon and I got cold and frustrated and decided to wait for better weather and a better mood. Mike, I will check the side marker sockets first. Again I don't know when this happened as I have not driven at night. Only checked on the lights as I need to get a safety inspection sticker. Last thing I knew every thing was working. Will let you know and thanks again. JB

Steve, I was glad to see you answer as you always give good advice. I have worked on the interior, seats, carpet, ect., but do not feel like I could have damaged any wiring. I will check on the BE section of the FSM and look for corrosion. Will let you know when and where I find the short. Thanks again, JB

Tail light circuit has a dead short, blows fuse. With no fuse in place If I short across the switch, power to tail light circuit, it goes to ground. Am I correct that the short is somewhere between the switch and the fuse. I have traced the loom to the rear and can seen no area that looks to be damaged. Everything was fine and suddenly a dead short. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks. JB

  21. Bruce, I just looked at Pay Pal again and could find a phone number for you. If you would rather send it to my e mail it is: johnbutchersr@suddenlink.net If Greyhound will let me I will drop the kit off for shipment today. If not, tomorrow for sure and I will let you know either way, Thanks John
  22. Bruce, Just got a chance to check email. Received your payment, sorry you had trouble with Pay Pal. I am not sure if Greyhound will call or not. I will find out when I ship the kit and let you know for sure and also if there is a tracking number for the shipment. Pay Pal had your name and address so all I need is your phone number. Thanks again, John

  24. bhermes, I can do PayPal if its ok by you. The total will be $395 shipped via greyhound. They do have a station in Louisville,KY. My paypal is : johnbutchersr@suddenlink.net I will need your name, address and phone to give to Gteyhound. I will ship as soon as I receive payment and best of luck on your project. thanks JB
  25. I looked at the MSA web site and they list the 2+2 separate from the coupe but the only difference between the two kits is the side skirts and some people don't use them. As far as me not using it, I bought a 78 280z and it came with the car. I decided to go with 240/260 bumpers that also came with the car. As best I know it just bolts on,maybe a bracket would be needed in the center but should not be hard to fab. It is fiberglass. I checked freight in general and Greyhound express is the only way to go cost wise. It should be about $85. The only problem is you have to pick up at a local bus station. Please check to be sure on the fit for your car. You can call MSA at 800 633 6331 and ask them. I did not notice your car was a 2+2 when I answered your post. I will point out that body kits require some fitting and filling in around the kit. They are not plug and play. If you decide you want it I will knock off $50 for not being able to use the rocker panels and give them to you to sell or trade. Thanks, JB
