keith, re-reading that aspect of no title....man, thats a tough one. Theres nothing worse than restoring it, and then you can;t drive it because you can't title it

too bad she's in indiana. I'd pick this thing up in a hearbeat. I could certainly shift some things around in the garage and get this on a rotisserie until I had some other projects out of the way. certianly no harm in it sitting inside while it waits for the proper care it needs.
  8. yeah this thing was about as swiss cheese as you can get. Def the worst one I have ever seen as well. Scary thing is that this one was already restored years ago. Perfect example to the newbies attempting crappy and inappropriate repair methods of what can happen. Only you can prevent this from happening to your Z car!!!
  9. that things an arizona cream puff in comparison to what we end up with here on the east coast.

  11. wouldn't you also need to use the radiator from the automatic as well to run the fluid coolant lines?

I would check chloe at midwest Z first. She may either have one used in good condition or one new and her prices are extremely reasonable. All I the business I have done with her has been nothing but extremely pleasing. MSA and victoria british also carry these pieces as well, however I would check www.midwestZ.com first.
  14. This would be the one. Brought her home yesterday as well as dragged my 78 2+2 out of storage so theres now two in the driveway as well as two in the garage. the neighbors are itching to see the first completed one roll off the assembly line. I was told the car did run on ether, I haven't attempted to start it yet however that shouldn;t be much of an issue. I'll snap some photos and post them up for all to see. Overall its a little rough around the edges, but worth what was paid for it.

FWIW, I once used a ZX radiator in my 280. I found it in a car in the boneyard however it was brand new.. I pulled it out and had a guy at the yard remove the mounting brackets on the side of the ZX radiator and remove and replace the ones off of my 280 and put them on the ZX radiator. worked like a charm.
  17. hehehehehehe....here's my long time partner in crime. Now with three of us in the same area, no Z will be left uninvestigated within the tri-state area!!
  18. makes you think that what we are doing is childs play in comparison to someone literally making their own car. absoultely amazing craftsmanship.
  19. Hehehehehe =). I think the three of us, myself you and my buddy thomas could perhaps discuss splitting a trailer three ways. Just a thought :classic:
  20. Actually this one isn't going to be put upside at all. My buddy is the manager at a 4 bay lube it all shop near my house so we have access to a lift and three pits so that is going to make things soooo much easier. most of the work will be done on sundays while the place is closed and we have it ALL to ourselves. First order, pull the motor and slap it on a stand for teardown and refresh. the head gasket is really questionable, or it could be the head. either way teardown is the only way to go and while you have the head off, you guessed it. Why not do all the gaskets, timing chain and gears, lap the valves, check the mains, the cylindars, blah blah blah. There will be no better time than now to do all of that. while the motors out and what not we can focus on taking care of the frame rail issues and such. the battery well is totally solid and the pans are intact so theres not much to be concerned about. thankfully this is more of a joint project for my best friend and I and his first opportunity with a first gen Z. Larry, I'll let you know when we plan on pulling the motor and such. We're in the process of putting together a parts list and inventory of what we need and get a game plan together. My welder has been awfully busy this year!!!!!!!!! we'll post pics of our progress for everyone to see. Z car number 9 in total
  21. Hey guys, Brought this one to her new home on saturday. The car does have some issues, however nothing major. The car had been sitting for some time so the expectations were rather low. Got to the sellers location and immediately crawled underneath it. Passenger side T/C mount where it meets the frame rail is starting to show signs of swiss cheese land. Not a bad repair and we caught it early. First to do. The floor support rails are rotted through the center however not through the floor. Thats tolerable. Rear portions of the floors are starting to get soft. Thats about it as far rot is concerned. Low beams do not work, windshield wipers not working. Sunroof leaks and the door and hatch seals are shot. All bushings dry rotted and the drivers side TC rod is quite loose. Interior is in good shape. has a dash cover and relatively new carpet as well as center console. The only real hump is the oil is the infamous blown head gasket milky white. We drained the sludge and flushed the motor. Cleaned the plugs and dropped some fogging oil down the cylindars and the cam. disconnected the coil, dropped in a battery and spun her over. After we spun it over a few times, we put the plugs back in rechecked the oil and cranked it up. The car fired right up and ran relatively smooth. after getting it to operating temp we shut it down and drained the oil again. After refill we started the car up and you can faintly smell antifreeze in the exhaust and its billowing the tell tale. Over all not a huge disappointment in my book. SOme TLC and she'll be right as rain and the car was a steal at 400 bucks.
  22. they're all out racing! saw this on Zcar.com Z Chicks
