  1. If you're worried about cooling, use the performance radiator from MSA, and an oil cooler kit, and this will keep the engine way under temp, even turbo'd out. The reasons why you see the "no more than xxpsi for this engine," is because of theoratical values with stock seals blowing out over a certain PSI. If rebuild properly, and use the P90 head for it was made for the higher air flows for turbos, and you could even sleeve the cylinders if you're worried about them blowing out, and you should be fine. Justin Yes, I've been doing a little online research for I plan on putting a turbo in my Z, but its a couple of years down the road.
  2. Here in WA, sometimes, it does snow, and they bring out someliquid de-icing stuff and salt and sand........
  3. The brake line kit from CT is $225 plus s&h for the stainless steel ones, or 189 for the OEM ones. I don't remember how much the one for the clutch line is. And the fuel lines, 3 in total, range from 100 to 145 for stainless, and 89 to 125 for OEM. Total for all the lines in stainless was 749 plus 40 for s&h. I personally reccommend spending the extra for stainless steel because they will hold up to corrosion better, and last longer than OEM. Here is the link for CT. http://www.classictube.com/search.asp It is not cheaper for replace lines that are looking bad, however, if they're as old as the car are, and showing signs of corrosion, it would be safer to replace them. Just make sure you get the right ones, or you can buy sections of straight tubing from either an auto parts shop or a hydraulics shop and bend them to the OEM style, using a good bending tool, and don't skimp on this tool either. There isn't any other bad feeling than having your brakes fail on you because you skimped on something with the system while you are on the freeway doing 75 MPH. (A friend did this in an old Nova in CA, and talk about crapping your pants. Thank God his E-brake was working)!
  4. Bruce, how did this hold up to the Arizona weather? I'm thinking about doing this to my own dash, for the 3 cracks I have are getting bigger, and starting to get another...
  5. Mezz, you don't ship out the trail bologna do you?
  6. Hey, I'm jealous, for there will be parts of the engine that I'm going to want powder coated when I'm ready to rebuild it. In the mean time, the turbo intake I have I need to clean up, then going to have it powder coated blue, or have it chromed, not sure yet...
  7. Had to post this one.... http://www.compfused.com/directlink/33/
  8. Speaking of transformers, there is a japanese company that actually has a 280z transformer. I remember Prowl being a 280ZX, and I remember a website to where they had a 280Z transformer, can't remember the website though...
  9. BuDavid, how is the Z doing? What have you done so far? Any pics of the car and what you have done? E, about the replacing one tire with no thread left, well, all my tires have a haze of thread left, so I guess they're good??? j/k I need to find a good used set soon before I find myself in some serious trouble soon...
  10. I def will, for I will be posting around the time I'll move. Yes, my family will be moving in with my mom, but she has a 4 bedroom home by herself, and she's not as young as she use to be. And, not sure if I mentioned this before or not, but I have a great uncle that has his own auto body shop/auto repair bussiness, and I plan on using him, errr, his garage a lot, especially when I repaint the car to the color I want. And I don't mind helping you at all when I get there, after all, these cars are worth restoring in a car for you in my opinion. Justin
  11. Ok, I did a search, and neither one went bankrupt, however they were close before their restructures. And Ford and GM are 2 seperate companies. Sorry for the confusion guys..
  12. Thanks bre, been a long weekend, especially after the project, and its been hard for me to collect my thoughts.
  13. Johnny, are you sure? Because General Motors usually refers to all the American car companies, and from what I understood, they restructured because of a bankruptcy. Aaaaa, its been too long ago, I don't exactly remember. I gotta do a search later when I have the time.
  14. Decent condition overall, but make sure you lift up the carpets to check for any rot under the floor boards that may be apparent, and check the inner fenders both inside the engine compartment and underneath it. If there's too much rot, you'd end up having a project like mine.. And it wouldn't hurt to take a hydraulic jack with you to check other things as well, and be sure to check the seams of the floor boards and other areas. Water loves to hide there and couse the usual cancer.
  15. Yeah, Ford, Chevy and Dodge are part of the GM chain, and the sales of GM cars in general have been declining for years, and GM in general had to declare bankruptcy because of this, and they've had to even shut down a few dealerships and what not. Sad it is, but the imports have slowly been takng over because they are, overall, better cars than the GM's. After all, look at the Z cars...
  16. Where's the undercoating???
  17. You may be right, however, they're doing this after the year they go banrupt, so it seems to me Ford is trying any angle to make a buck right now....
  18. WingZr0, I wasn't talking about a HD player, but a HD LCD TV, for inorder to get the full effect and quality of the PS3, you need a TV that has the HD stuff. Blue ray discs are HD, all it is is just a lot more stuff packed onto them. Blue ray is going the way of games so far, but it still has a way to go for movies, for the current camera technology is not up to par yet. But that is all blue ray really is, is a larger capacity disc to hold more info.
  19. Sounds like you know this from personal experience. But that's good info, for when I'm ready to do the body, I'm going to want to take it down to bare metal and do any under coating and body filling needed and give it about 3 coats of primer before I take it to a paint shop or paint it myself, unless someone else has any suggetions for me.
  20. It was the dupli color liner that I used. And I will be moving back to Ohio with my family at the end of the year, so I will be there with my Z. And I have a great uncle who owns his own auto body shop that will be helping me also. He takes old cars and restores them and works on other peolpes cars too, and drag races on the weekends... I tell you what though, I'm very grateful to Dave with all the help he's given. Myself, I'm a computer geek, nerd, whatever you wanna call it, and I will be builing him a new computer for all the helps he's been given me.
  21. Awesome, awesome, awesome..... Now, if there was only some way I could come up with the money t get a high def TV and then the PS3, I'd be very happy. But wait, then I'd be playing so much that I'd never get any work done on the Z. Darn vid games.
  22. Also, something I just did this weekend with Zs-Ondabrain was use the SEM rust convertet (if you can still find it), and over coated it truck bed liner, with creates a nice, solid seal, and acts as a minimal sound barrier itself. We used the dupli color bed liner, which takes a day to dry, or you could use the actual Rhino lining, which takes about 3 days to dry. And also, you'll need to let it air out before you put in the carpeting. I have pics of everything we did over the weekend, and it looks good. Now, its just a matter of me getting dynamat to put in, then new carpet.
  23. Balaguy, the N42 is a block from a 280, so yes, it is a L28 block. Check the E31 head for cracks, for they were notorius for doing that, at least from what I understand from this website, or was it the E33? Any who, just save your money and go for the triple webbers or mikunis if your going that route, and you'd probably get better performance from the N42 head or the P90 IMO, for they breath better for either NA or turbo application.
  24. Thanks het976. Its definately been very rewarding so far. I've had loads of help from Zs-Ondabrain with this project, and we should have it done today, for this car is also my daily driver. Still a lot to do, but this was the major stuff. I will be getting new front fenders, a new hood (thanks Dave), and a new cowl (thanks Arne), and a new head light bucket fr the drivers side. Then I can sand down, body fill where needed, and prime it up, getting it ready for paint, but that won't be for a while, need to do the dog legs first. Other than that, this car has been really good to me, and I'm glad I rescued it from that 17 year old kid.
  25. Thanks for this thread, for I will be replacing both my fuel and brake lines with stainless, as soon as I buy all the lines piece by piece.
