act your age. Wait no... Post your age
Probably the oldest among us at 64 11/12 years. Bought my Z 15 April '70. 00721. Drove the literal dog crap out of it. Sold it in '77 with the provision that if it ever came up for sale, I had the right of first refusal. Well, it did, and I bought it back in 2007. It's now a pristine show car with liberal track hours. I know, that's a dichotomy, but it's nice. The keys will only leave "my cold, dead hands." And like another poster said, it's like I'm 26 again...my happy place. BTW, check out www.texaszparty.com for information about Texas' Z owners having a big shindig at MSR-Houston on Father's day weekend. Frank

The coil isn't getting spark
Since the 280 hasn't fired in quite a few years, there are about a jillion other things to consider as well as a bum coil. Have you gone over the pre-start check list for a car coming out of hibernation? Frank

Early Seat Belts - Original?
Duffman said: Not sure why. I can offer one reason. Belt fraying. When adjusting the belt from the inboard side (with the latch), you slide the serrated roller against the belt. Over time, that frays the belt, and causes belt fibers to embed and wrap around the roller. Eventually, the belt becomes frozen and will not allow any adjustment. Frank

Leaking Head Gasket
Yes, the gasket need to be replaced. No, the quick-fix you suggest is not a permanent solution. You can replace the gasket yourself with a modest set of hand tools and the service manual. I can't begin to suggest what a shop might charge you, but others here may have an idea. Frank

lights out
Have you replaced the fuses? They can look good (unblown) but still will not pass current. Test each one with an ohm meter and clean off all corrosion on the clips that hold the fuses. That might solve your problem. Frank

Selling Various 240Z Parts!
My CRS kicked in. :dead: Dan was polite enough to point out my error via a PM, and I appreciate his doing so. There is no need to pursue the rheostat knob any further. Sorry. :embarrass: Frank

Selling Various 240Z Parts!
I'm looking for the knob that attaches to the rheostat that governs the brightness of the dash lights. It is below the dash on the left. If you have it, please let me know. Thanks! Frank

Thanks to all for the information. I'll use it! Frank

Where to buy Tail-Light Panels???
Sorry to resurrect this thread... My '70 has metal rear fascia surrounding the tail lights. What is the best method for removal of these pieces without significant risk of bending them or breaking any of the attachment pieces/clips? The FSM is silent on this question, and the search function doesn't give me the complete story. Thanks for your help! Frank

Gauges not working
The manual you can download will most likely have your answer.

Rear hatch latch/striker, clear zinc or gold cad
My '70 has the gold cad-plated version. Anyone else have anything different? Frank

Exhaust Header Wrapping
The only temperature difference will be in the exhaust temperature, and that by just a very few degrees <50. You will find no discernable difference in engine operating temperatures. Frank
-
Exhaust Header Wrapping
The only upside to wrapping your header would be to keep the temps down in the engine bay. Since all components are designed to withstand non-wrapped header temps, it would be, in my opinion, a waste of time and $$ to do so. Ceramic coated headers keep the heat inside the pipes where it belongs, so wrapping would be a heavier alternative...your car, your call. Frank

My 71 240Z exhaust thread
Which way did you go, Stephen? ANSA plus the resonator or just the ANSA? Frank

Flat top pistons
I'm no expert on this, but it seems that if you're running a stock head with stock block, the reliefs are there for a reason. My flat-tops (70) have owner-induced "reliefs" imprinted due to a bad cam install I did years ago. I'd hate to think you'd do the same thing from a different source.... Frank

Very strange problem with my 260
G9M3C, this problem has been shown to be the result of a bad disgronificator valve. If you replace it, your problem will go away. Frank

280z likes to die randomly
Nope, it doesn't. Crud lasts longer than gas does. David was right, pull the tank, get it cleaned, and odds are the problem will disappear. Frank

transmission/ shifting ease
I, too, am not sure of what your question asks. Each standard-shift vehicle will, individually, have a different feel. Some will be "easier" than others, some a bit more problematic. Assuming no mechanical failures with any of the vehicles you mentioned, I must at this point presume there may be a lack of experience involved. Not trying to offend you or anything, just exploring an option. Frank

2009 Track Days Invitation
It'd be nice if they had locations secured for the rest of the country, too. I've heard good stuff about MVP, but don't want to drive 1000 miles just to run one. Maybe in the next decade..... Frank
