  1. I came acrose this story that was in another car forum while I was searching for a list of Carbon Fiber Manufactures in the L.A. and San Diego areas on the internet. Looks like it might take a few extra shifts of flipping burgers to save up for that carbon fiber hood you've had your eye on, bucko. USA Today is reporting that carbon fiber demand has gone way up recently, causing prices to quadruple in some cases. They blame the price surge on demand for new jetliners, like Boeing's 787 and its primary rival, the Airbus A350, which use significant amounts of CF, particularly for their wings. The cost of carbon fiber has jumped from $5 a pound just a few years ago, to a whopping $20 a pound today. We kind of figured it was sold by the yard rather than by the pound, but that's neither here nor there. To cope with the increased demand, carbon fiber manufacturers are adding production capacity, but that will take time. And in the meantime we'll have to keep paying more. To put this price increase in perspective, they point out how specialty manufacturer Saleen had to raise the price of its S7 supercar by $25,000 for 2007. That might not seem like a big jump on a car that already retails for $580,000, but that increase alone could get you a Mazdaspeed3. And the tuner crowd could be especially hard hit, with costs more than doubling for products like hoods, mirrors, spoilers, and trim. Of course, faux fiber will probably be even more popular than ever as a result, which is the dark side to this story. It's probably the extra time to get their carbon fix more than the extra money it costs to buy that will effect most shoppers, however. Retailers are saying some product delivery times are up 4-6 weeks as a result of the extra demand. 18. Thyanx for the Offer Blake but Racerville is 50 miles north of Sacromento. And I've done that drive to Bernadino myself. If you really must know were is Racerville I sent you a PM This info below was a LONG (but good) DAY :tapemouth My buddie Trave was saying I should do the work myself which I should and would like to because It would be fun, but the good news is a new Z friend I met, Leon, who works at my Napa Auto store had a look at my engine and was complimenting on how clean it was. First thing he noticed it was rebuilt then recognized who rebuilt the engine when he saw the Machine Shops marking stamp on the side of my N47 Head. He said it was rebuilt by "Racerville" Machine Shop and they've been around for decades and he knows the family that owns and works there also adding they do great work. I Asked Leon if he'd like to start it up and he said yeah and was listiening to the engine saying my valves diffinately need to be adjusted and some of the noise I was hearing had to do with the fact #6 Pistion wasn't firing from the clogged #6 fuel injector. Adding It might also be an electrical problem from plug connectors to the injector looking different and not matching. I mention to him the guy who did my diagnostic said the Pistions had carbon build up and was knocking the N47 head causing the sound. Leon said thats not the case here and not to spend the $800 to have that guy do my "Head Work" just yet. Although now I believe if my Gas Tank is bad their might be something to that Carbon build up theory. Last thing Leon mentioned was change my spark plugs and wires to NGK and replace Distributor Cap and Rotor, fix a small oil pan gasket leak (which I did not notice ) and I should be running good. He said the car was really nice and we proceded to talk shop So I fleeted over to the Racerville Machine Shop and this Cat named Shawn who works there came outside to look at my Z and was totally stoked when he saw my ride saying he use to have a '78 with a 350 conversion with the exact same rims adding the "rims alone make it a classic" Back to issue at hand Shawn said my oil was a quart low so the oil pan was a slow leek since it was full last time I checked the level which was at full 2 weeks ago. Then gave my a bussines card to their valvetran specialist, a girl named Joy. Once again there was more talking of shop After driveing to Joy she listiend to the engine and also said the valves need adjusting badly and spoted the loose timing chain sound also noting that the timing was way advanced as invidenced by the hesitant start and the fact the engine dies or drops RPM when I get on the gas to fast. I told about a PO who was enriching the Throttle body to max setting and messing with the AFM to supposedley cover the clogged Injector issue when they sold it and she agreed that was the case so I'll have her and her shop tune it right if they can. She gave a price qoute a little under $200 to adjust the valves and fix oil leek and that includes parts and labor with same day turn around. It was too hot and she was busy so no shop talk :rambo: I don't know but I think I'm on the right track once I get the Tank cleaned and Fuel Punp replaced cause of the bad Gas in the tank. ~Z~
  19. Made an appointment to get my Valves adjusted on Thursday and the Lady, yes thats right a Girl , said it also sounds like my timing chain is loose and the timing is way advanced which is why my engine bogs and stalls on idle sometimes. Changed My Fuel Filter by myself yesterday and my gas came out looking rusty colored. Going to have the Tank dropped, cleaned and recoated in 2 weeks by a well known rediator shop in town. Turn around time is one week but the shop will not do fuel rails for safety reasons. Adding a new Fuel Pump when Tank is reinstalled, but do I need to clean the Fuel Lines and EFI fuel rails as well and should I clean the tank befor or after getting my Valves fixed.
  20. I was gonna go with Brasses but didin't think to ask the the MSA Rep. Sounds to me like someone know their Dodges
  21. I found that 3 prong plug (left hand side) disconneted under the Passenger seat yesterday and plugged it in to see what happened to see if it was the Fuel pump relay or not. My brake warning light worked fine evertime I used the E-brake untill then and now it won't turn off. Now when I unplug the connector the Warning light will not light up even when I use my E-brake even though it worked just befor.
  22. I Hope so too. So far all the problems with Ruby have been basic and cheap, besides the Valvetran noise which I hope is just a stuck lash valve or valve seat, which should be an easy fix once my Valve Cover Gasket arrives from MSA so I can take off the cover for a look first. Lets try and keep it that way :rambo: :tapemouth
  23. Solid I just orderd those bushing from MSA and I should be getting a set of Rack Bushings from Ebay hopefully to solve the loose steering Prob. Going to Maapco now to get Fuel Fileter and a hatch load of some Sea Foam. ...... one thing at a time as the say ~Z~
  24. I feel your pain brother When are you getting your stuff to you? Can't say I ever rode in a porsche let alone woked on one but I Love working my new Z, gremlins and all
  25. All that is good is pretty awesome and the fallopian tube is funny I called my local dealer for a tune up and diagnostic qoute for my '77 and they whipped out the book quick! Even gave me a price from the page showing what it would take to bring her back to spec. Roughly $200 for a tune up and $145 to diagnois :rambo:
