Wow, that sucks. I would say dump it on someone and part it out. Leave a bad feedback if purchased on ebay. Try to get ebay involved. If local purchase get the bbb involved. At least the next person to purchase from this loser will have some idea of what happened to you.

I would check the combo switch and the connections to the switch. On my '73 the wires were so brittle that every time I tried to turn on the blinkers or blow the horn, the lights went out. It was very confusing until after I removed the column and started jiggling the wires in the column. I found several shorts in the wiring harness and some sloppiness in the combination switch. Good luck. Sounds like we all have to go through some messy electical stuff when we tear apart our babies.

zman and mr280, I agree with the folks here. The problem is not he fuse box. It is what caused the fuse box to melt. I too have a '73. Someone cut all 3 of my wiring harnessess to shreds and bypassed most of everything to get it to run. The fuse box was bypassed as well with a bunch of inline fuses. I had to purchase used wiring harnesses off of ebay and merge them together. There were several places in my harnesses that were causing the fuses to blow and eventually melted the fuse box. Be careful, do not just fix the symptom, fix the problem
  4. I removed everything. I was trying to get rid of the rust, floor pans, all quarter panels and runners. Here is a pic of how it looked after paint. My paint and body cost only $2500., but took over a year. They were doing it while not busy on insurance cars

Sounds like the highways in Texas, especially between Houston and Dallas. I am glad you had a good time, and I am jealous. I cant take mine on the highway, yet...still refreshing her.
  6. She looks pretty. I cant wait till I get my suspension and steering complete. I am still working on the bumpers

Are you talking about the part of the harness that holds the light bulbs that get inserted into the hcp? If so are you looking for the complete harness? I have an extra one, but it is not in good shape at all. I have had to replace it, because the previous owner cut ALL of the harnesses up.
  8. Yeah what ARE they doing outside?
  9. That sinks. I did that to a '72 twenty years ago before I knew anything about cars. It was not fun.

Hey Ed. Do you have a photo of the last part of the wiring harness between the voltage reg and the engine bay harness. I am trying to hook up my elec fuel pump and I can not figure out how it connects from the relays in the cockpit to the wiring harness. The photos you showed worked wonders, but I need more detail. It looks that there is a wiring harness that connects to the relays and runs into the engine bay, but from there I do not know where to hook to the harness. Here are some photos. Thanks for the help

I got my floor pans from MSA. The only problem is that there were no holes like the original. The rust on the floorpans was much more than the replacement floor pans, so he had to use sheet metal from around the shop to splice everything together. The body guy did a great job. He works for a shop that only does insurance work. It took him a year to do the work, because he only worked on it when he was not working on insurance jobs. Once I figure out how to shrink my photo file size I will post a photo.

THat is a nice looking car. I would check out ebay and other online auctions to see what is selling and how much they are going for. Perhaps you can get someone on this board to buy it. Why dont you update your profile so we can see where you are...good luck

Wow looks like a long job. The floor pan looks really nice. Keep posting pics or give us a link to a website that has the complete line of pics.

Do you have access to a wiring diagram from a shop manual? I would start there. I had something similar happen, but it was my combination switch that was going out. Good luck.

    I stand corrected

It sounds like you are low on fuel. If you have enough fuel, check to see if there is an electronic fuel pump right next to the tank. Then check to see if it is wired correctly. I have both a manual and electric fuel pump. The electric one is not wired currently and she is running fine. The manual one get is power from the cam while turning over.

After the holidays, it would be nice to get together and compare z's. I live close to downtown Houston.

Nooooooooooo, Haynes manuals stink. So do Clymer. Do yourself a favor and buy a shop manual. I had some major electrical issues with my '73 and the only help I could get was purchasing a photocopy of a shop manual. Definately a life savor. If there is a clicking noise under the dash on the passanger side then the relay is either bad or connected wrong. After you have done everyting that Enrique said, you could remove or bypass the electircs of the car and see if the motor itself is bad. All you need is a ground wire and a hot wire. Make sure that your fingers aren't anyway near the mechanism...better yet, remove the wiper motor and test it on a table.

    Where are the pics?
  20. yeah, be careful with the hatch glass. I broke mine trying to cut it out and it took me 4 months to find a used one.

Fortunately he is not going to do anything to it any time soon. He is moving in August, so he has to sell it then. I will probably wait.

Hey, A buddy of mine knows nothing about z's and has no inclination on maintaining it. When I first got my, '73 before the restore, we used to tool around a lot. Now his sits. He is not too pasionate about it, so he is thinking about selling it. It has not run in about 1 yr. I know all the things about getting it started. It has very little rust and used to run like a top. The interior needs work. Now the question. What would a 1975 280z. Original - completely, not running, but I can fix. The AC works, or used to a yr ago. Did I say original - green, surface rust only. Should I pay him the $1500.00 he wants for it, or finish my '73. I just need to replace all the steering bushing, install a radio in the glovebox, buy a speaker box for the back, buy all the rubbers for the rear bumper and install bumper, and fix the exhaust smell by adjusting the carbs. Then enjoy it more. Chuck
  24. Randy, I think you will find that after plenty of use that you may have to place the manual into a three ring binder. Good luck. It took me 2.5 yrs to get 90% finished. It is the last 10% that is the toughest. Chuck

Actually I am looking for the filler ends that connect the end of the bumpers to the fender, while filling in some space. I believe that it is the number 9 on the 70-73. Chuck
