Not to sound like a wet blanket but listen to what yetterben has to say. We get quite a few young people posting about getting a z and then want to have a million horsepower so they can street race and go faster than everyone around. We all have stories of people we knew who are now dead because of stupid decisions while driving. Not only that but innocent people getting killed in the process. Its hard not to want to drive them fast, they are great cars. Is sounds like you are a good person and we all want you to stick around! Start out with small things and enjoy the car while you have it and then you will get a feel for what you like and don't like and then you can change them. There are tons of things you can do to modify your car to your liking. With the right amount of money, you can do anything! Good luck and keep us posted. Ask plenty of questions for good advice and use the search feature at the top to help further. carl

I actually have one somewhere! I just need to dig it up. Thanks. carl

Hey everyone, Tomorrow I hope to start installing the interior vinyl in my 240z. I was planning on starting with the wheel well arches in the rear. When I removed the old vinyl years ago, I am pretty sure they were glued down to the metal, not any underlayment. When I dry fit the vinyl, they seem huge with lots of room and bagginess. I have put down a layer of FatMat so I thought it would help some but not appreciably. When you install the vinyl, I assume the spray adhesive is a contact adhesive that you apply to both the arch and the vinyl. Do you turn the vinyl inside out and start from the top and work your way down? How do you deal with the folds and excess space? Any thoughts and advice would obviously be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. carl

I have told my story several times so take it for what its worth. I bought my 240z for $500 dollars. It had some rust issues but was really anxious to finally get a z car. I have spent over $8000 restoring the car and trying to fix all the problems. I could have saved thousands of dollars by waiting and getting a car in better condition and enjoyed it more along the way. It would be a shame to tear out the newer interior and have to replace it again. Anyway, good luck with your search. Let us know how things work out. Regardless of the car you get, this site is a treasure trove of information and helpful advice. carl

I would agree with the advice not to remove the headliner. When I was prepping my car to go to the body shop, I tried in vain to get the bits of foam off the metal under the headliner. I then assumed that when the car was dipped to remove the paint that any remaining foam would be removed. They had to media blast off the rest and warped the roof significantly. Good luck with the dent! carl
  7. Well, if my memory serves me correct.... Homer Simpson got rid of ants in the space shuttle by exposing the interior to the vacuum of space, thereby sucking all the ants out. So.... if you pressurize your car, take it into space or some other complete vacuum, then just open the window and WHOOOSH!! out go the ants. Problem solved.
  8. Now why didn't I think of that. Can you get that through MSA or what? I keep asking myself "How do I get my car to look like that?" I guess its creative.......i guess carl

Welcome and best of luck in your searches. You will find a lot of people here partial to the 240z but there is a lot to be said for the 260 and 280z's as well. When looking for a z car you have to be sure and check closely for rust everywhere! Also, are you looking for something completely original or just something to have fun with. What may look like a great buy initially can end up costing a lot more in the long run. Be sure to ask if you have any questions. Also, use the search feature up top for additional help as well. carl

Sblake, My car came with rear defroster wires in the rear window. At least it came to me with them. I don't know how it came from the factory. The probable damage to the passenger side might also explain the fuel door being wrong. carl

Yes, they sell stainless steel brake lines and billet stuff. As much as I can save buying brake lines from them, I just don't trust them enough to try again. Their loss. carl
  14. My early car #333 didn't have an evaporator tank. I assume that its originally not supposed to be there. carl

Well I finally heard from these guys. I guess they lost my transaction and offered to either return my money or wait on the next shipment of brake lines which will be in 4 weeks. I am definitely going to get my money back. They have never acknowledged the numerous emails, failed phone calls, or the paypal claim. I don't know why they finally decided to get in touch with me but I have had enough. I would really be careful if anyone is thinking of using them in the future. carl

I thought I had read somewhere that they had a color available and painted a number of cars that color and then moved on to the next batch. Something like the first cars to come over were all the same color and that the first ones sold didn't come with a color choice. You took what came off the boat. I could be completely wrong. Does it seem weird that they smothered the car in grease? It may make sense but to me its not the first thing I would think to do. carl

I think the bumpers have been painted black. You are right about the fuel door. It should have a chrome knob. The air filter housing looks correct. I have #333 and its the same. I am curious about the paint. I don't think it was originally red. Correct me if I am wrong but mine was green with butterscotch. I know they did batches of cars all the same color so I would think that many of the cars around this vintage would be green also. I didn't think they used red until later. It still could be a great buy. There was rust under the battery tray in one of the pictures. Hopefully the engine wont be too much trouble. carl

I agree with Chris. The only one piece bumpers that I am aware of were the original 3 piece bumpers that have been welded together. There are fiberglass and carbon fiber one piece bumpers but thats all I have ever seen. carl
  19. Oh, yeah. I mean Kia. I uh..... just misspelled it. Whoops! carl
  20. The MSA kit I bought and my body shop used ended up with extra pieces they didn't use. Some were for the 280z on the label and seems to be a one size fits all. I too have trouble closing the door and hatch. Search for Hyundai and you should find a lot of info. Also, try the dealers. They still have some original stuff. Good luck. carl

I had no idea that 114.3 = 4.5 inches. Do they use millimeters because they are from Japan or is there another reason? carl

    114.3
  23. Hmmm. I depends on a lot of things. I purchased mine for 500 but have put almost 8 grand into it at this point. I looks like it is in pretty good shape but from the pictures you cant tell a lot about it. It already has bondo and rust issues but they don't say how much. I doubt the mileage is really 36xxx. Unless it is documented, I would think it is more likely 136xxx. That is pretty typical. In my opinion it seems like a good buy as long as the rust hasn't gone through the floor and frame rails. Everything is fixable with the right amount of money. If you are looking for a good project it looks promising. If you are looking for a daily driver immediately, it won't work. Good luck. Keep us posted. carl

No offense Indri but this isn't the place to be discussing that kind of topic. Investing is a private matter and you can get into some pretty sticky situations if you rely on what you read in a car forum as investment advice. Good luck with that. carl

Thats pretty cool. I wish there was more of a background story to go along with it. What were they doing there? Are they really going to race or just promotion. All the cars looked really nice too. carl
