I remember reading an old piece form a car mag detailing the new 240 from Datsun, in which the top speed was 121 for the four speed and 119 for the auto. Don't remember which mag it was but i think the article is still on the IZCC site.

i was thinking the same thing hm. I agree with jc we build our cars to reflect our own ideas and passion for cars. I don't like seeing the beloved 240(er early Z) riced out anymore than rest of us, but like jc said atleast it's on the road, and that said it really doesn't look that bad (save for those damn head lights).

An air dam is the best aero addon you can do to an early Z IMOP. That is if you want to drive at any speed that is fun. I noticed early on that at any speed above 75 my 240 began to get lite under the nose, it wasn't a good feeling. So i put on an MSA air dam and now the faster i go the more it sticks my car to the road.

Thanks for the tips guys, i will continue to bug you now for more info. By the way do any of you think that adjustable shocks like Tokico's are worth the investment. Would adjustable ride stiffness be a bonus for different race surfaces. I just wondered if it's worht the extra moola or should i waite until i get real serious. thanks.

Rally has for a long time been my favorite motorsport. I have allways wanted to race it, i think it is the most demanding form of motor racing there is. Now that i have a 240 and want to get into racing rally is the way i want to go. My question is should i look to build a car specific to rally or can i take my street 240 and race it in a club. I understand a tire change would be in order but could i run with a street suspension, would i need higher stiffer springs different shocks and so forth. Really i'm just looking to have fun with the car i have now, race it on the weekend drive it during the week, can this realistically be done?.

I have this and a few more of this car. IT's a V8 Z, if you have Morpheus you can down load the dyno test of that same car it's very impressive.

I really like the feel of this club it's much more relaxed and close nit than IZCC, what's more it's focused on early Z's . I myself in my own Z journey have discovered that i am more a 240Z guy than a Z enthusiast. I just don't care for the look of any other Z after the 240, sure i'd take the parts but the bodies just got uglier and uglier. I have to say that i liked being part of a club just for 240's, it's just kinda cool to be part of that crowd. Saying that though as long as the feel of the site doesn't change i can live with almost any name, i'd rather continue to benefit from it than get caught up in what it's called.
  10. I have looked at these also, the only thing that stopped me from putting a bid in was that they aren't crome. There are some more bullets style mirrors on ebay, but there either in England or really expensive from a state side dealer. I found a dealer in CA who sells the English style triple crome bullet mirrors found on Healys and MG's. I wanted to put them on my 240 but there 40 bucks a piece so i'm still on the fence about that. I know if i buy them i'll see em on ebay for 20.

I had a 72 Auto (that btw was also just changed to a manual, 5speed zx with R200 3.90) that i had to take all the smog stuff off. I took it all off, air pump, air galley, throttle opener valve, servo diaphram, all that crap until i had a nice clean balance tube. I pluged any holes in the balance tube with brass plugs. It runs better than ever, i also replaced the points with an electronic ignition L.E.D system from Crane that seemed to make a world of difference. I would get non smogged headers too if you don't already.
  12. I would ask the guy what the casting number on the block is. I only say that because it looks like an engine that has never been touched, got pulled from the car complete. If that's true i don't think L28's ever came standard with round top SU's. Weren't L28's fuel injection only from the factory, i mean that engine still has the air pump air galley and all the smog stuff. Why would you pull the fuel injection off and put all that crap back on. Then again i am probably wrong, but i would still ask for the casting number.

I had a 72 Auto. I changed it to a 5 speed with a R200 3.90 rear. You couldn't pay me to change it back what a blast that car is now. You just don't want a 240 with a three speed slush box, no fun.

Saint i have the leather 205 wheel with hub adapter, i have had the system for about a year now. The wheel is like new with no sign of wear and i couldn't be more happy with the Tekniq product. The snap of system has never let me down yet, it's made of sturdy materials and is as tight today as when i bought it. You can't beat the security i mean what car thief is going to try and take your ride with no steering wheel in it, time is everything to car thief. Also your hub adapter is individual i could not put my wheel on your car it wouldn't fit. I really like the 205 wheel but i'm sure they are all good quality, i don't think you will regret buying the snap off system.

  18. Well i have four kids so i'm not getting out of anything, was going to put a new head on my 240 this weekend but i got a stern look from the wife, it occured to me that it was infact Mothers day on Sunday. So i'm off to Victoria Secret and then tomorrow it's dinner flowers and all that stuff. I guess the ol' 240 will have to waite until Monday.

I posted a review on a fiberglass MSA air dam that i installed on my 240 if your intested in reading it. As for painting it, for now i painted mine with Krylon primer and then white Krylon spray paint from a can, it's funny everyone tells me how good it looks. Of course when i decide on a body paint for the whole car i will use auto paint.

There are varied opinions on what oil is best but i think a 20W will work well. I've used 20W in mine for a while and have always had good performance. Some people use tranny oil and so on. As to how much to use i just fill it to about 1/2 an inch below the lip, any overflow will just run off down the side of the piston, no harm no fowl there.
  25. Yea it was me that said " that damn cart cost me than my Z". One of the display carts was like 3 grand and i paid 2 for my humble Z. ). Yea i was late because of a couple accidents and the border partrol doing searches (i got a bit lost too). We would of been even later because Mike couldn't get the key card that operated his hotel room door to work. I stepped in and saved the day though, it was the least i could do. It was alot of fun meeting all the Z heads especially the Hybrid guys. Mike and i were shown an adjustable rear control arm that one of the Hybrid Z guys had made. Mike liked it so much he wouldn't let go of it . Alot of fun though and it was good to meet some of the guys from the club. I won't be there Saturday but will zip up for the show on Sunday to hang out and get my Z fix.
