  1. i pulled a set like that off my 280 and can attest to the following issues: distorted rubber seal = leaks (had to fill w/silicone) popped up/damaged the sst trim insets scratched up the hatch glass at the mounting points rattled incessantly not saying louvers in general are a bad idea, just be careful how you go about it. i've found i don't miss them at all from a glare standpoint and the car looks cleaner w/out them imho.
  2. Like this guy did with a three wheeler. "it's red-neck as fuuk but it works", classic line!
  3. 1 point
I'm absolutely sick about this. Tears and everything. John was the most kind, level-headed, thoughtful, smart guy I ever knew. His Z and car posts, his FB posts were always top notch and human. My condolences to his family and friends.
  4. Didn't someone else (not Red Green) use a rented portable cement mixer as a tank tumbler?
  5. Why not just tint the rear window and quarter windows? Probably your least costly and most effective way of keeping the sun out of the interior.
  6. Funny as @#$%. And yet, having two tanks to clean, this has really got me thinking. Greased up revolving engine stand, or a couple of pillow block bearings and a shaft on a frame, large hamster wheel for the dogs to power it, one fishing pole and hotdog the only thing left to find is a Harold as a critic.
  7. I remember somebody noticed the boxes in the hatch were probably the hubcaps. It doesn't look like the hold down hooks have been installed on the rear bumper brackets yet either. The different colored sticker in the window probably determines which US port they went to. Here's my inspiration photo, the reason I went back to graphite instead of black the dealership had done to match the spoiler. It's the same color as the scallop hubcaps according to Wick Hubble's "How to Restore" book.
  8. Kirak: I had the type of louvers that you are looking for and I was disappointed with how it mounts onto the hatch and so I got rid of mine about two years ago. They pop up every now & then for around $150 on this site and/or ebay. Just be forewarned that the mounts need to slip under the rear hatch window seal, It didn't look like it would be very water tight. Also, louvers will always rattle.
  9. I have an idea Red Green would have jacked up the rear of his pickup and duck taped the gas tank with rock and acid to a rear tire. Fire up the engine, put it in gear, and have it finished in no time at all. Probably could substitute all those rusty bolts nuts and washers laying around waiting to be cleaned for the rock and clean them at the same time too.
  10. Good luck with the sale, Chris, it's a beautiful car! On the listing you really ought to add a quick video of the sound your doors make when they close - that alone speaks volumes as to how good a job you did with the restoration and attention to detail. You're well on your way to getting a good price for the car though, and with the US dollar being a bit stronger than the Canadian, that's another nice bonus on top.
