  1. Just about done, not sure if the red cam cover and orange air filter cover go together. May end up running the brushed alloy cam cover instead, will see what it looks like in the car.
  2. Hi All! this is my first post on classiczcars.com and i'm super excited to let you all know that 3 days ago i found and rescued original Scarab #157! I put a link below to a short youtube video of the car when we got it back to the shop. If the the link does not work just do a youtube search of scarab #157 and it should pop right up.Within the next 24 hours I'm going to post a ton of pics of the car and lots and lots of documentation. This is a 2 owner car from California that was moved to the Midwest in1990. The car has not been driven for almost 5 years. We are planning a full 100% restoration on the car. If there is enough interest, once we strip the car down, i can find out what the process would be to make molds of the body kit and whale tail. The originals are fiberglass. I think carbon fiber would be the way to go if we redid the body kit. What do you guys think? http://youtu.be/8RAXw0EGFCk
  3. The more I think about it, the more I believe that emissions standards, with lean mixtures with retarded timing, forced some manufacturers to pull the spark plug tip out of the most efficient area for ignition and closer to the combustion chamber wall where the mixture burns cooler. Ground and center Electrode tip materials back in the day may not have been able to handle the heat. Pulling the electrode tip to a cooler location in the combustion chamber may have been a temporary solution in the transitional periods between Catalytic convertor development and the new Fuel injection systems. These weren't perfected over night by any means.
  4. yeah, a wheel on a grinder is the way to go - get some red and white polishing rouge (red for taking the surface smooth, white for the color/shine) and there'll have no end to the fun you'll have making things shiny! suddenly the ice cream scoop, that old belt buckle, the cheese slicer all become jewelry
