Featured Replies

What is the proper procedure for doing the timing on a 1978 280z, in the book it just tells you what the timing is, it does'nt tell you if you have to plug the vaccum advance or anything like that. So could somebody help me, Thanks

Hello, is any body out there or is this a very stupid question.

According to the Chilton"s Manual, you are to keep the vacuum hose CONNECTED to the distributer advance vacuum diaphram. Hope this helps you out.:classic:

Plug the advance..

Get car at TDC and mark the notch with paint (WHITE

Lossen off the lock nut on the dizzy.

Get car at idle.

Put timing light on crank and adjust.

Tighten up lock nut.

And recheck

If ok connect vacuum advance. If not re adjust.

ROFL HOW ABOUT THIS SPORTS FANS , WE HAVE A JUMP BALL ! do we connect the vacume or not .ROFL

Good point beandip

I would certainly like to know what people are running and what they find best for their applications.

On triples etc most suppliers (Webcon, Pierce etc) recommend cap off the vacuum and advance timing a little to compensate.

Maybe time for a pole

Would that be the same as a "poll"? LOL

My recollection (don't have my manuals with me at work) is that the vacuum hose should be disconnected and plugged up when setting timing. That is the way I have always done it.
