Best ways to improve street performance while keeping it mostly original

If using the choke improves acceleration, even when it's warm, fuel starvation is the problem. I'd start by checking the float levels first and a fuel pressure and volume test would be next .

Thanks. Will do

Lighten the flywheel with something like the Fidanza 143281 (10.7 lbs). It will noticeably improve engine response without any visible changes to the car.

You can also have your original flywheel lightened, but make sure you use a machine shop that knows what it's doing.

I had a 280ZX 2+2 240mm flywheel lightened while retaining the original 240mm (new) pressure plate and clutch disc. I noticed the difference straight away. The engine revved more freely, although the clutch became a little less forgiving when engaging it.

The finished flywheel weighed 13.5lbs, almost 10 lbs lighter than the original 23lb flywheel.

I followed this sketch, and kept the thickness at 12mm

I did the light flywheel on my 1995 300zxTT and I still don’t like how the clutch engages. I may consider doing that on the 240z

Thanks

That is why I went with the original 240mm pressure plate and clutch disc; they aren't nearly as harsh as a lot of aftermarket units. My lightened flywheel also weighs 13.5lbs, which is about 30% heavier than the Fidanza setup. The Fidanza 10.7lbs flywheel is a lot of weigh loss.

My conclusion: You get a strong 240mm clutch with a relatively light, normal feeling pedal comparable to the factory stock setup. While the 240mm components are a little heavier than the 225mm, the lightened flywheel makes the overall package about 8.6 lbs lighter in the end.

Thanks. I appreciate the information. This is good to know. I’ll talk to my mechanic as we work through these issues. Thanks again for your feedback.
