Early hood latch parts

Featured Replies

Having removed these 3 hood latch and bolts over the years……keeping the hardware together, has me questioning what is correct bolt ?

3 latches, 3 different bolt styles . Comments on correct for super early double digitIMG_4499.jpegIMG_4500.jpegIMG_4502.jpeg Oct/Nov 69 hood?

@dspillman, my car is a 1/71 series 1 and am pretty sure the

fasteners for my hood latches are correct.

Hope this helps.

Beautiful paint and plating!!

I’ve looked 4 different early latches today with 4 different JIS style bolts. Little shorter/longer etc… but none smooth with grade on the head…. I’m sure there is a accepted correct bolt?IMG_4506.jpeg

Hi, not for the bonnet side but the engine bay, here are some very early examples. The orange car is a Z432 at the 1969 Tokyo Motor show. The white is a press car assumed to be less than 10 cars from the beginning.

I see round head screws for some cars, but looks like most of our cars have hexagon head bolts.

dspillman, I think I stand corrected. Wanting to confirm that the hood lock machine screws with embossed grade on my car are correct, I’ve done a little research. There are several cars that were sold on Bat that I believe to be stock original or restored to a very high standard, and they all had the hex head JIS machine screws. Still doing some additional exploration and will let you know if I find more proof.

Hi Dan

Please correct me if I am wrong but I dont think .7 bolts would have been used to secure the bonnet/hood receiver to the body. .7 (Class 8.8) bolts are high tensile, medium carbon steel used for "structural" type applications.
