Help with LR marker wiring

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I have been working my way through issues with my 240z acquisition and am generating more questions for the forum than answers (net negative member). Thank you for your patience and help.

I have the OEM wiring diagram, (purchased in 1971 by my father) and some others including a fancy place-mat color diagram from ClassicCarWiring.com (not affiliated). I cannot seem to find what the additional wires are for, stemming from the left rear marker light harness. The wires are white and white/black.

I do have the antenna wires back here as well but they are currently not attached to the aftermarket (guessing) antenna as there is no radio (I only ever needed to listen to the glorious inline-6 )

Does anyone have any idea what these wire are for?

Thank you.

I know it from 20+ years of reading posts on this site.

Just a bit of clarification for those of you that did not live through the 60's and 70's:

Only one speaker because we didn't have STEREO car radios in those days - you needed expensive HIFI equipment in your house to get it at home - MONAURAL Radio (FM was a huge bonus but I had a stereo tape deck LONG before I ever had a stereo radio...)

The radio antennas were electric but NOT automatic like later electric antennas - they worked on a switch to manually extend or retract. The switch used those two wires to either run the motor forward or backward to push the mast up or pull the mast down. You will have noticed that neither design - manual OR automatic - lived long thankfully.

My father installed a Pioneer 8-track that doubled as an armrest in the center console. Epic sound system back then. Lots of CCR and Rolling Stones played on that in my youth with dad. I still distinctly remember the whirring sound of that antenna going up and the click-click-click whet it was at the top.
