I think the straps that were used with the oem exhaust will work perfectly if you go with the typical single pipe exhaust... I had a 6-1 on a '76 with 2.25" single pipe and rear muffler all mounted to the factory strap locations and it worked perfectly.

I've gotten it out for the first ride today and it was magnificent. No stress, no flex, no fuss. I will look into the clamps @L24ITS suggested as an alternative to the smaller clamps provided by RC just to form a better seal at the mating joint.
