  1. I think the straps that were used with the oem exhaust will work perfectly if you go with the typical single pipe exhaust... I had a 6-1 on a '76 with 2.25" single pipe and rear muffler all mounted to the factory strap locations and it worked perfectly. Frank
  2. I think the forward bolts could be made to work, but didn't see the benefit. With those stainless sleeves in place, the mid pipe and muffler sections are as solid as a single piece. I did use the stock hanger location for my '73 with a new strap. My muffler is hung from factory mounts with new straps as well. It's solid as a rock in my case and those fiddly early hangers seemed more likely to screw up a nice, solid, interference free installation... so I didn't try very hard to make them work. I have several hundred miles on the RC exhaust now and love it more with every drive... Hope it all works out for you. Frank
  3. Yep... those are the ones.
  4. Not sure if I can post a link... I searched on Amazon and found 1 3/4" clamps, $12 for 2 from Zorvello. I'm also adding ITG foam filter and TWM air horns after running with the airbox open for an hour... this exhaust is really complemented well by mild induction roar! Frank
  5. I launched the supplied hangers and went with some 304 Stainless sleeve clamps... this worked much better than I expected and the resonator and exhaust sections are virtually welded. The old clamps allowed some flexing of the joint and it leaked almost immediately. RC is getting this feedback as well... I used a rubber mount attached to the factory '73 exhaust support... all very solid and muffler is hanging in the proper place from the factory hangers. Completely leak free and solid now. Overall I'm delighted with this exhaust and these clamps make it perfect...
  6. I got the car out for a longer drive today and this exhaust is impressive. It sounds super refined and makes no obtrusive noise at cruise... you can listen to the stock radio comfortably. I't really throaty under acceleration and it appears to have made a decent power improvement, probably mostly due to shifting at 4500 vs 4000 where the old exhaust started to lose is composure. It's really nice at idle and growls under full throttle... really does sound like an OEM component (no popping, no drone, engineered sounding "ping" to let you know it's there. Happy endings are the best!
  7. That was much more help than I got. I hate to see when a company has 95% of a great product, but fails at the critical step of making their customer successful. This is a fairly premium product that is worthy of some attention, but without your own lift or professional installation, I couldn't recommend it. Having said that... it rips and exactly what I was looking for! Not boy racer, no fart can, no louder is faster, just a really sorted sounding OEM like system that really emphasizes the character of the 240z. I'm delighted with it. Frank
  8. Sounds like we had the same experience. I was using a couple exhaust jacks and had the car on a 2-post lift, so I took quite a bit of time changing angles, moving stuff, jacking here and there, and slowly got everything to line up with about 1/8" overlap past the slots. I would have liked more like 1/2" at least, but it's not leaking right now at least. I'm beginning to wonder if I was short some exhaust clamps and used the hangers in the wrong way... making my other point. It's not complex, but a few installation pictures would sure be nice.
  9. I did find the pipes could have been longer, but with the muffler on the factory mounts I was able to overlap the pipes enough to prevent a leak. I also sourced the bolts for the diff cross member, but since I was using the clamps at the pipe junction, the supplied "'71 style" mounts were 2" from the factory bolt location. I'm planning to get some clamps and move the hangers toward the cross member to use the mounts they supplied... or I was planning to do that at least. I'm pretty happy with how it's working now, so might leave well enough alone. I was also very happy with the lack of exhaust fumes in the cabin... tried all the usual configurations and it's not an issue, for me at least. The exhaust did smell a bit for about 1/2 hour, but all's good now!
  10. Took my wife out for lunchtime z ride and a thorough test drive with lots of bumps and twists... not only does this exhaust sound authoritative and OEM quality, it fits tightly and makes no contact with the chassis under any load I've found. Very impressive piece of work RC. The muffler section should have about 2" more on the mid-pipe ends so the mounts line up like they intend. I also recommended some installation instructions or pictures at least to help guide people to a happy customer category... it would be fairly easy to install this poorly and end up unhappy. I'm passing those two comments along to Max at RC with praise for quality, service, sound/performance, and the overall experience. Frank
  11. with badges...
  12. #486... 3 yr rotisserie restoration with new or made "new" again parts. I've been playing with 240z cars for a long time, but only did this level of effort for an amazing example of a sub-500 car. There's a big surge in suppliers since I did this project (finished in 2017). Great time to restore a Z car these days. Enjoy the Ride!
  13. Your car is beautiful btw... I put my RC system on an original '73 that shows proper patina for sure, but original paint still shines and the interior is time capsule quality. I fully restored a '70 (SN 000486) and really appreciate how nice it is to be assembling new stuff. My exhaust swap was much more greasy however... Frank
  14. You should use some brake cleaner and get all the hand prints off before you start it up... Once you bake the fingerprints on, it's another polish to get them off Stainless... DAMHIK. Frank
  15. Back to the RC complete dual stainless... Got it installed today and it was fairly straightforward. As pointed out before, it's definitely not too long... but I pre-hung everything, and slowly tightened it into near perfect alignment. I took the opportunity to dramatically simplify my stock '73 balance tube which added to the job considerably. Once it was all back together it fired right up and sounded very happy. I've yet to drive it, finished too late today. Sounds pretty fantastic on cold start and idle. Thus far I think it's a winner... fantastic workmanship and the fit was right on, although another inch or two on the rear section would make it better. As shipped you have to get a little creative with the mid pipe mounts. Frank
  16. I will sure let you know... did RC offer to fix it?
  17. I have this exhaust sitting in the garage ready to go on a pretty stock '73 with ZTherapy round tops. I'm taking the opportunity to clean up the intake manifold a bit, but should have it installed tomorrow. It's spectacularly nice cosmetically and seems quite solid... very mice multilayer steel gaskets and coated mid-pipe hangers. The header is a work of art... It's replacing an older 3-2-1 setup with 2.25" pipe to MS Auto muffler. Sounded as you'd expect. I'm looking forward to hearing this setup... sounds nice in the couple clips I could find. I'll update on results.
  18. You will benefit from looking at a variety of cars as well. Interior stuff is pretty costly and there are lots of parts. Parts for outside are not cheap either, but pretty much available. Some inside stuff is only available through more exotic channels (Bonzai Motorsport and such). Great products and service, but easily missed when searching. Plan to see some cars and look at anything around to build your database. Then find something the matches the level of restoration you want to do.
  19. My L24 makes 150hp at the wheels (maybe 180 or so at the flywheel). It has weber DCOE40s, a header, mild cam, and a Rebello road race L24 (bored, E31 head, mild tweaks). Mr R says 217 flywheel, 180+hp wheels is carb tune and cam away. Planning it out now. I built a harsh z early on. Konis, big bars, lowered, etc. Too rough for anything over 20 minutes! This one has european spring rates and chassis weight has been lightened. Gas struts and a '74 rear sway bar. 4 piston fronts with zx master cyl. Rides firm and is well in control of the motor. Not harsh, but quite firm on any extended drive. I'd ride in a few to see what you like.
