Thanks Captain, that nailed it down.  The junkyard car was a '77-'78, it had an N47 head.  The blades looked exactly like his picture, well not exactly; about half the paint had flaked off.

Now it makes sense that someone would pull the transmission off the wrecked car.  Who wants a 4 speed.

Makes me want to buy all those at that junkyard. I could buy a few acres to stack them on.

Ebay prices are crazy but caveat emptor.
