Posted November 12, 20168 yr comment_506341 I found this interesting map light that I would like to install in my Z. According to the seller, it's an "optional item found on later S-30s and fits in the center of the forward roof panel between the sun visors". I cannot find any references online. Has anyone seen this light? Kats, Greg, any other JDM specialists out there? November 12, 20168 yr comment_506343 Yes, I've seen the light... Nicknamed the 'Medama'/'Eyeball Lamp', a 'late' S30-series deluxe addition: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/56509-jdm-optional-map-light/#findComment-506343 Share on other sites

Other than in pics, have you (or anyone) ever seen it in a car? November 12, 20168 yr Author comment_506347 The picture I included in my first post is from Whitehead but it appears to be missing a type of base (between the lamp and the roof liner) which can be seen in the HS30-H pic from a manual. November 12, 20168 yr comment_506348 That is a very cool light! I assume you would have to pull power around the edge of the roof from the other dome light Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/56509-jdm-optional-map-light/#findComment-506348 Share on other sites

November 12, 20168 yr comment_506352 Are both the overhead light and the glovebox light on the same fuse? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/56509-jdm-optional-map-light/#findComment-506352 Share on other sites

I'm not sure but my glovebox light is already an LED and I will make the new map light an LED as well so the amps drawn will be minimal even if they are on the same fuse. November 12, 20168 yr comment_506354 That's a good call. My train of thought exactly. It does look like it's missing the base. Maybe something could be fabricated Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/56509-jdm-optional-map-light/#findComment-506354 Share on other sites
November 12, 20168 yr Author comment_506355 That base would probably be quite easy to reproduce in plastic or wood and painted to match. The lamp does have 2 holes to screw into the roof. Is there a reinforcing rib of some sort under the liner in the middle that one could screw into? November 12, 20168 yr comment_506356 If whiteheadperformance is were you have found the Map light, give them a call. Mike have a big interest in jdm parts so he should know that the base is missing. Maybe they have the base to ? Would be strange if the sell an item thats not complete.
