Dropped my gas tank today. 1972 240z.. And I have an interesting issue.

The fuel retun pipe (small one on top in the picture) moves, it spins although if I pull it out a little it tightens up. I doubt it's intended to be a friction fit.

Has anyone had this issue? The tank is really clean id hate to have to have it cleaned out just to weld this up.

Any suggestions? Would you trust jb weld on this?

That happened to mine also, I just resoldered the joint.

Like nix240z said, just resolder it. Don't use any soldering iron that uses an open flame.

I've done it before not on a Zed, but it was similar. I washed out the tank first , as a precaution, and cleaned the area with a wire wheel and I used a mates plumbers soldering iron to solder the joint.

I had that car for eight years after that and it never caused any problems.

If you intend to use a wire wheel for cleaning up the area, pre-solder, I would suggest that a brass wire wheel is the safe choice (less potential for sparks).

Just clean the tank then sorrer it back in that is what I had to do.  My first car the large vent ones came louse also.

I've used the two part epoxy fuel leak repair material on a pin hole leak in a tank.  It worked well.  Another option.
