My 72 has not stayed in tune since the day I got it back from restoration. The carbs were professionally rebuilt by Z Therapy. Finally the front three cylinders totally died. I just got back from looking at it and found that the hose from the bottom of the float bowl to the jet is thin and collapsing. It is not allowing a consistent fuel flow or no fuel flow. Does anyone have a source for the proper hose? Or other suggestions.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but why don't you give Bruce a call and see what he says. I have Z Therapy carbs with no issues like you describe. Maybe they got a bad batch of hoses. I've found that they totally stand behind their products...just sayin'.

Hello Mike, I have been in touch with Bruce and waiting to hear from him. I did locate a company which offers a neoprene molded part like the original. He just got back with me and says this is the fix. There are two possibilities one for the carbs with a 90' fuel line connection on the jet assembly and one with a 180' connection. The Z's normally took the 180' hose with early roadsters taking the 90' hose. He has both. They are $63.00 for a set shipped. Well worth the money it if fixes the nightmare these have been.

I'll go out on the "other suggestions" limb... I made my own.

 

I started with high quality neoprene tubing and heat-set a bend in it. It came from the manufacturer with a bend in it already (probably from being stored on the roll since the day it was manufactured) and I found that I was able to accentuate the already existing bend by heating it while holding in a crude fixture.

 

I don't think I got 180 degrees, but I got more than 90. Maybe 135 or so? Enough that it seemed "unkinkable" to me.

 

Been a while, but I think I made a set from Viton as well (until I learned how bad of an idea it was to overheat Viton...)

I don't think I have any pics, but can take some if you would like.

I've looked at some R//C engine silicon fuel line. Its very soft. It's rated for some pretty volatile fuels, like nitrous. Depending on which you choose, some have 400F/200C temp range. Cold end as well, like -112F. Just about right for around here. crap I hate winter....

At the very least, why not hook up what fuel line you choose in nice loop or coil rather than insisting on making that 180 bend and being bothered by kinking and hardening? Just rambling..

I installed the replacement pre-shaped hoses from datsunroadster.com this summer and it made all of the difference in the world. Once I re-balanced the SU's the car ran great. It still as a bit of a stumble which I will work on in the spring.
