Who Makes the Best Strut Bar

Featured Replies

I'm looking to add a Strut Bar to my car and looking for help the best one made for a 78.

Best is really relative. Things to look for..

How easy is removal (for valve adjustments and the like)

how much clearance does it provide for your wires and accessories

Other than that, you are putting a straight tube in tension. They will all be strong enough to do the job in tension. So strength is about equal to all of them. So get what is easy to work around and what looks good.

A triangular set-up is better than a straight bar but adds some complexity to installation and removal. Have someone build you one. For the front go from the struts mounts back to the firewall and for the rear add an angles piece to one side of the strut tower up to the bar itself. A roll bar would do all this instead.

Kameari carbon bar. Or even the RS Start bar. Be prepared to spend!

Cusco makes one. Great price and looks good.

This one was built after some finite element analysis of the S30 chassis. Allowed an increase in front spring rate of up to 100 lb. in.

John, Is the back of the firewall tied into the knee bar of the cage on the other side of the strut bars in your photo above?

No. Not needed for my application. The cowl box is a triangle with the base of the triangle at the firewall. The center mount plate spans the base of that triangle. It very strong right there.

I recently installed a Cusco bar that I bought from Amazon for just under $200. I was also concerned about fitment, but no problems at all. Looks great and actually makes a difference even in moderate driving.
