I have had enough WOOOOOO sound for a lifetime now, that R180 is driving me nuts :stupid: Is it possible to get rid of that noise by changing bearings or does the whole assembly need to be reneved? I have -72 with stock rear. Please help.

edit. It could also be the rear wheel bearings but im not sure. They feel a bit sticky when i roll them (when arse is up)

My R180 was making that sound on the race track right before she went kablooey. The bearings went and took the ring gear out. Have you checked or replaced the fluid? Ours was low on fluid which started the failure. It was the one thing on the massive pre-race to-do list that we didn't complete.

It could very well be a wheel bearing. Get the car in the air and rotate the wheels. The movement should be smooth the full 360 degrees of rotation.

Its not, 3/4 rotation goes okay (a bit of draggy though) but then the last 1/4 feels kinda tough. I dont know how to explain it better. Should they spin uber-easy when on air?

Yes they should spin freely. Make sure you're not confusing this with break drag. Generally a bad wheel bearing feels "gritty" as you spin the wheel. If you really want to isolate the wheel bearing, drop a half-shaft and spin it again.

It drags the same, with or without drums on place. Maybe i'll start there first. Is it a big operation and are any special tools required?
