Am I missing parts?? *With pictures!*

Featured Replies

So as I was examining my distributor, I began to notice various wires that had nothing connected to them, and some threaded holes in the engine block with nothing attached, am I missing important parts?? Thank you!

The one on the battery is just an available ground from the battery cable. Nothing missing.

The one near the fan...tell me, does your temperature gauge work?

I think that the holes in the block are for the AC compressor bracket. I was just fighting with one the other day. The wire picture by the battery is too dark to see (for me). Where does the other wire go?

What year Z, and what engine?

Rarely, but yes, on occasion it decides to work, but not at the same time as the oil gauge.

smog pump bracket missing (that's not a bad thing). Wire may be for condenser on original point distributor. Maybe you have electronic ign?

I think motormans right on pictures 1 and 2, I originally thought it was the compressor bracket. In the picture it looks to be on the timing mark side of the motor, on my 78 the compressor bracket is on the opposite side.

Actually, motorman's picture is on the left/driver's side, you can see the base of the distributor and the vacuum advance canister. Plus the air pump is on the left of the crank shaft pulley. Motorman's timing tab is on the left side of the engine.

It might be that the bracket serves dual purpose, AC compressor and air pump. I know that the AC compressor mounts in the same general area on my 1976 car.

Either way, they would be mounting holes for parts that were not common on all cars, so yoshi is probably not missing anything.

1973 240z, l28, flattop carbs, 280zx electronic ignition, so, so far I'm not missing anything important? Thank you all! The dark wire I'm pretty sure is what Gary said, a ground. The other wire near the fan is red and white, but its hard to tell with all the grime, so is this just unnecessary wires left over from removal of the points dizzy? and I don't need the smog bracket then?

Zed,

Ok, I have a 1978 280z, but with a 82 or 83 motor, the timing mark is on the right or passenger side of motor/car. The compressor bracket is on the left or drivers side of the motor. :stupid:
