Electric Antenna

Featured Replies

Can any other electric antenna be used in my 1975 280z? The stock Datsun electric antenna are upwards of 200 dollars!

There are numerous other types of electric antennas on ebay, has anyone had any success using another brand/model in their 240/260/280?

Thanks!

I have a cheap off-brand fully automatic antenna that I bought ten years ago at Harbor Freight that still works fine. It required a couple of changes to the wiring and I did it so long ago that I've forgotten exactly what I did. They don't seem to sell that antenna any more but I'm sure others would work.

You can get an original for less than $200 - I got one two years ago for $70, like new.

Where? All I see on ebay is $180+ ?

Besides, the power antenna isn't something I feel the NEED to keep stock; especially since I don't even have one now. I just want something that fits/works.

Are you looking for original function or just a power antenna? Also, will this be with the more "modern" radios or with the original Mono 4 watt unit?

This is the one I used on my '71.

Do a search. I got mine off the shelf at my local Best Buy for I think like $39.95!! Fits great and works great!

Dave (zsondabrain) installed mine along with a new head unit and all has been working well for over a year now!!

I think Dave may either have one of these laying around, or can source one for you if you cannot find one.

Good luck!

I picked up a Harada fully automatic unit locally for $33. Mounted exactly the same as the OE Harada, but can be activated by the antenna lead on aftermarket head units.

Did you check with your local dealer-through your local Z club discount!

$150-$170 beats $200, and it will be the current iteration of factory Nissan parts!

Thanks for all the info guys, but I need a little clarification: What's a head unit? And is this an install I can do myself? (seems simple enough)...

Head unit = stereo, radio or whatever you want to call it. If you have the stock radio, the stock antenna is semi-automatic and controlled by the antenna switch on the radio. Using a fully automatic antenna requires a little re wiring but nothing real difficult especially if you have and aftermarket radio with an lead for a power antenna but it can be done with the stock radio also.

Ah ok, well - currently there is no radio installed in the car; but I will most likely be going with a cd player (something newer than old stock am/fm).
