this looks like the dash pot. On the stock setup and emissions stuff , this was part of it. The dash pot function was to delay the throttle from closing quickly when you lift you foot off the gas peddle. There by keeping the engine from dieing . Mostly it came into play , when in traffic and start to accelerate and the car in front of you stops and you need to brake quickly . This keeps the engine from dieing . Gary

Thats what I thought. I have another post on this topic but didnt have a photo to confirm it was in fact the dashpot. The reason I asked is because I removed mine because the idle hold was annoying. Anyway I was wondering what to do with the hose I stuck a screw in it and it seams to run fine. Should I be doing something else with the hose? Thanks

It is a dashpot and might keep the engine from stalling under some conditions but I think the function was primarily for emissions. Closing the throttle slowly keeps the mixture a little leaner which helped it meet the smog test back in days of old.

I've experimented with mine... It simply slows down closing the throttle when you take your foot off of the pedal, rather considerably, too (at least mine does). I plugged it as you have and have what I consider better pedal response, probably at the expense of creating a few more emissions, because it is part of that system. Sometimes I run with it, and sometimes without - I guess that it depends on my mood.
