The only newer Skyline legal to be imported is the 1996 R33 GT-R only. This is the one that had factory dual airbags. The problem is that no one has been able to make a working OBD-II compatible computer for the car. So it's unlikely any will be brought in legally any time soon. Not to mention the fact that legal R33's are bringing about $50k here. That is a hard sell for a 10 year old used car when the new GT-R will be here shortly and will sell for $70k, come with a factory warranty, and it will be brand new. Don't get me wrong, the R33 is an awsome car, but might not really be the best way to drop that kind of money here.

My guess (and that's all it is) is that without OBD compatibility, emission testing would be impossible for those states that have it.

ooh ok... there is some local development here in Australia in reading the Data off the skyline computers, plugs int othe OBD port, and reports a whole bunch of stuff, either to a LCD display, or laptop... so i wouldn't say that is isn't available (it certainly is to nissan )

So the Skyline has ODB-I but not II and how is that a deal breaker?

We're talking about the beauracracy, here my freinds. If it doesn't fit into a neat box, it won't happen.

So then, how much _has been_ put forward to getting an OBD-II computer built or adapted for the import legal Skylines?
