Featured Replies

Im going to put a new motor in my z and do not want the weight of a v8 but still mustang beating power what kind of dependable hp can i get from a L28 with what ever mods needed.

That's a VERY open-ended question. How much money do you want to spend?

Thinking of using an RB30dett (skyline) its 5K for everything including trans and computer

you want turbo or NA?

you could get 400+ with turbo

you could get 200+ with NA

its up to you...im pushing about 170to the wheels right now, but after my SDS and custom intake manifold ($$$) ill be around 210-220 probbaly.

Id like the idea of a turbo just dont want there to be any stess issues with to much hp. I want a daily driver and this is going to be it.

The L6 is a heavy engine. You could put in an alloy V8 (eg Rover) and it would be lighter than your current 6-cyl.

Im trying to gather options any ideas on what an L28 weighs.

Aside from the fact that the inline 6 and the V-8 are close to the same weight . Remember the v-8 sits farther back in the engine bay , this makes the car almost a mid engine car. If you are looking for HP , you cannot compair the L-6 engine to a good hot v-8 . As with the 6 or 8 HP costs money and it all depends on how fast you want to SPEND . Witch ever you decide , build the car for your self not others.

Any ideas on how to weigh a complete engine? I have one on a stand if you have an method to weigh.

Ive had 2 V8 z's they just didnt seem to handle the same. I just want the car do drive like it should but still want a fast car.

I think the Rover aluminum V8 or the Lexus SC400 V8 might be a nice way to go. Both have been done. I'm not really into V8's and have never had personal experience, but I have heard that aluminum heads and intake manifold on a SB Chevy is considerably lighter than the L28 engine.
