Hood Emblem Question

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a new hood emblem <datsun on it> from ebay from a person that regularly sells nissan parts and has 100% feedback and when I go it its plastic? Are the oem replacement ones plastic ? The original one I had was aluminum or another light metal. Just asking its been a bit since I have bought one . Thanks Jeff

The "factory original" hood emblem that Courtesy Nissan sells looks plastic to me. Since all the other emblems are plastic, it's safe to assume it was too.

The difference the the texturing they did to the plastic. It really does look like metal until you look at the underside.

Metal ones usually had pins on the backside and little clips to hold them from behind or plastic inserts that went into the holes in the sheetmetal to provide friction for the pins to keep them in place. Plastic ones are usually flat on the backside and has adhesive tape; sometimes they have locating pins. If it was a model-specific OEM replacement, it should be the same as the one on your car (i.e. metal or plastic). If it was a generic part (i.e. used on many models) chances are that you're getting "modern" replacement parts that look the same, but may be made from different materials. Anyway, that's been my experience.

New ones are plastic - old ones are metal. I'm looking for a metal 'Datsun' for the hatch lid.

mine are plastic the old ones and the new ones... and as i can remember the emblems of my old 1973 260C were plastic....

my plastic one has the pins on the back and clips that fit in the holes on the hood., no tape to be found on it at all.

my new one AND my originals on my 72s are all plastic w/ chrome plating... at least that's what it feels like....

hey guys i just took an old metal one off my hood, i'm not going to have one, the only thing is it had no pins it was like glued on or something. it is in ok shape if anyone wants it!

Rear badges are plastic as far as I know, except for the "240Z" badge with the Chrome Z (its metal) instead of the recessed white Z (plastic). Rear "Datsun" ones I have are both plastic (one believed to be the original the other a new oem replacement).

Side "Datsun" badges i've seen are plastic. (original and oem replacments)

Side round "Z" vent badges are metal (original badge, dont know about oem replacments). they are plastic on the 260/80 2+2's.

Front hood round "Datsun" badge oem replacement is plastic. Never had a z with an original.

I think possibly the early cars got all metal badges, then nissan swapped over to plastic for some of the badges. but thats just a guess.
