So I thought my heater core broke, it was fine, so I figured it must be a hose under there. Just now i was able to see that the hoses were all fine as well. I have traced the leak down to the brass looking valve thingy (<-- Descriptive arn't I) that the hoses go into under the dash. Does anyone know what this thing is called exactly and where i could find one? 77 280Z with dealer installed AC.

That's the heater ****. They were still available when I replaced mine in 2003. A Z mechanic friend of mine got it for me but I'll have to ask him where he got it from.

VB has them listed as a heater valve (part 54-234) for $119.95 and Motorsport has them listed as a heater control valve (part 16-7643) for $81.56. I recall paying about $75 for mine in 2003.

Ahhh yes, it was only a matter of time before someone said it.

Will it hurt anything if i bypass this thing so i can drive the car until i get the part in? This is my daily driver, so i really kinda need the car.

i know. As it turns out, before this thing broke it never did turn off the water anyway. That dubbed my AC about useless and when its 102 outside, having the windows down doesn't help much anyways. I was planning on just bypassing the entire heater system. just running the hose in a loop inside the engine bay. Will that be okay?

Or take off both hoses inside the engine compartment and loop the nipples together-no heat inside, I drove my last Z for years like that-Savannah, does not get that cold that often...
