August 23, 200519 yr comment_135295 I was going to paint that dash cap a flat (or satin) black color. Something that won't reflect the sun. Would you also paint the old dash to match? August 23, 200519 yr comment_135329 TomoHawk-try a Joann store-they cary the headliner material I spoke of in a multitude of colors-including black-at about $2.50 a yard. I would glue it to the dash cover with a permanent glue, and remove the cover, not the fabric, when the gages need to be addressed. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16071-dash-repair/?&page=4#findComment-135329 Share on other sites
August 23, 200519 yr comment_135332 Exactly. So you basically just glue the bottom-front edge of the cap? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16071-dash-repair/?&page=4#findComment-135332 Share on other sites
August 23, 200519 yr comment_135367 Yep-er! To quote a hair tonic commercial, "a little dab'll do you!"Just put adhesive where it is necessary, and only after letting the cover sit on the dash for several weeks in the sun. Heat and gravity will pull the cover to the dash, and you glue where they were not successful! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16071-dash-repair/?&page=4#findComment-135367 Share on other sites
August 23, 200519 yr comment_135385 I wish I had the time to do that. I'd like to get mine covered ASAP, because I go to car shows every week lately. A crappy dash or no dash in the car is not good. August 24, 200519 yr comment_135458 It won't, I have driven several that way, and one I never glued down, after three years, I moved it to another car, then glued it down. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16071-dash-repair/?&page=4#findComment-135458 Share on other sites

August 24, 200519 yr comment_135470 My son and I had a near-perfect dash without a single crack that came along with a bunch of other spare parts when we purchased our '71 240z in May of 2004. The dash was from a '72 and we decided to sell it on ebay. The main reason we sold it was because we felt like we had a time bomb on our hands... it could crack when we tried to install it into our '72 or it could crack 6 months later or even the next day. We decided to either go through Dash Restorations or to buy full dash caps at a later date for both of our Zs. We got over $500.00 for the dash on Ebay, and we don't regret selling it at all. I wouldn't pay $1,400.00 for a NOS dash, they are made of cheap old vinyl plastic and could crack. Dash Restorations uses high-quality materials that should last a lifetime for about half as much as an NOS. Here's some pics of our dash that we got a cool $500.00 for: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16071-dash-repair/?&page=4#findComment-135470 Share on other sites
August 24, 200519 yr comment_135482 Been a few years since I had my last dashboard re-done - however Dashboard restorations in Brisbane Australia were charging approx. $300-$400 AUD for exchange service or to reskin your original.
