Craig, Is that the one Cuong was talking about? Is it metallic brown/copper in colour with 260Z alloy wheels? Where on the freeway? Hayden.

I like the look of the white car, the Green and Gold looks too much like a Camaro!

Steve, I have the details of the 260z...I'll get them to you soon. The #38 car really does exist - I saw the chassis number. It is engineless at the moment but was running as recently as 3 months ago. It is silver in colour, has a vinyl roof and sunroof (yuck!) and generally in tatty condition. However, it is in better shape than other 'low-number' cars I've seen in Perth.

As with car drivers, its the few bad eggs that give a that spoil it for everyone. I rode a bike for 12 years and gave up the fast and silly phase early on. Who needs it? Its enought to know that your 1000cc totally stock pushrod engined machine will blow 99% or tintops into the weeks... no need to prove it. Something else observed amongst my mates was that riding bikes made us better car drivers - more alert, more aware of our surroundings and the road conditions. I've often thought that drivers should do a compulsory rider training course to sharpen their skills...

Where was that one advertised? I looked at a 260 2-seater on the weekend. The guy had it repainted about 18 months ago (metallic copper) and they didn't do a very good job at re-sealing the rear hatch glass. As result, the interior of the car (which is not stored under cover) was absolutely sodden. The carpets and underlay are actually heavy to lift because they have soaked up so much water! The car was a '77 model, orig engine etc etc, but getting a bit too high tech for my liking(!) - it had A/C for goodness sake! He also had a rough-looking 240 which ha was planning to build up into a clasic racer. Interstingly it was chassis no.38... a nice low number!

  10. an ambitious but highly commendable plan! You can add my car (when I get one!) The WA site is in its infancy and I'm not the webmaster for it. I am however trying hard to raise its profile. Try the site again when you can, its usually up.
  11. Steve, Are you starting a register? If so, you should post the fact on www.wazcars.com... a group of Perth-based Z-enthusiasts. Their website is just starting out but they have a good groups of core members as I unserstand. Hayden.

There is a number stamped into the firewall in the engine bay on the driver's side (RHD) just below the rubber bonnet seal. It should match the engine bay plate... I guess what it amounts to is that all of the numbers you will need to see are under the bonnet!

Rick, my tongue was formly lanted in my check when I typed the original post...alas howver, it IS a direct quote from wheels magazine. Take it as you like, but I think most of the replies have summed up the situation pretty well. That is, there are some mechanical ignoramuses out there whic give rise to the opinion expressed there. Happily its not one which applies to the broader Z-community!

You mean the first 240Z came out 10 after than first MGB. New MGBs were rolling off the production line when the 240Zs appeared so the comparison is valid. Its no fault of Datsun that MG made no major technological revision to the MGB during its produciton life. In fact, I understand that when the MGB first went into production its engine and drivline were already dated, having seen service in the MGA which dated to the 1950s.

Well, this topic certainly did provoke some discussion didn't it? I certinly did not intend to suggest that our American friends are all 'maintenance-ignorant'... as we all know, every country has its fair share of those people. I am also sure that members of our exlted group are either able to perform maintenance themselves or at least recognise when they cannot! Re: Turbo mainenance requirements vs non-turbos. I think that the only caution to the owner of a turbo-owner would be on the subject of oil. The type of oil used for turbo applications (if I recall correctly) must be able to cope with turbines that spin at 10s of thousands of RPM rather than simply an engine which may reach 6-7000rpm... Might be wrong, long time since I drove/owned a turbo car.
