Well everyone, I've just ordered my new covers from Classic Datsun and hope to have them here in a month or two. apparently the Tan (Butterscotch) colour has to be made specially...they're obviously not as common as black. The way the Aussie Dollar is performing against the Greenback at the moment, the deal is getting cheaper every day!

Well I wouldn't expect them to get thicker What about the L28 in a 280Z... are its liners thinner than in a 240Z?
  3. halz replied to Fun_in_my_z's topic in Engine & Drivetrain
It does! I think you could overbore an L24 to fit L28 pistons. Only the later L28 blocks had the extra webbing in the casting and I think that was the cope with the loads of a turbo engine..(?)

In fact the L24, L26 and L28 blocks are all the "same" (minor differences externally). the extra displacement comes from increasing the stroke (L24 to L26) and increasing the bore (L26 to L28).
  5. Have a look here: http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/p90.html This site is full of good tips on a performance L28 rebuild.
  6. No they're not, they're Rotaries. A two stroke has a reciprocating piston that fires once every revolution of the crank (or once for every two strokes). A Rotary engine has a roughly triangular rotor which spins eccentrically in an epitrochoid (roughly a figure eight) chamber. There are three power 'strokes' for every revolution of the rotor but the output shaft turns three times also so... maybe it should be called a "one-stroke-engine" http://auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine4.htm The rotary is only similar to the two stroke in that its 'piston-to-wall' lubrication system involves oil injection into the fuel system...and even there are differences there too.
  7. 300hp is pretty good from 1300cc :devious:
  8. Funny story: As part of the "Domestic Approval Process" before buying the 240, I took my wife along to the W.A.Z day last August. It was the first time she had seen a Zed close up and she liked them. (yay, things looking ok for a new Zed)...Then she turned around and saw the roadsters...she really liked those Apparently I would have no problem getting a roadster at any time in the future...<sigh!>
  9. There are a few around... might get one as the Z-replacement some time down the track.

Hmmm, sunday? sunday? That would be BBQ no.2 for the weekend starting at 1pm and involving copious quantities of prawns, squid and Little Creatures Pale Ale! Alas, I'll have to wait for the Feb meeting to put in an appearance...should have my new radiator in by then too... How was the meeting, any new cars turn up?

Welcome! There is an increasing number of Perth-based mambers on this site...Have a look at this forum: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3256 Also, you can go to www.wazcars.com. They are an informal group of W.A. zenthusiasts who meet monthly.

  13. Melbourne gets its fair share of high 30C days throughout summer... The advantage over Perth/QLD/etc is that you can be sure that there will be a cool change that will drop the temperatures by about 15C soon after. If going to Tasmania, pack a trout rod... and a fast motorbike for all those deserted twisty roads!

Are you sure? The car in that avatar looks like Dark Orange 022 or, at a pinch, Kalahari Tan 918. Red 110 is definitely a red colour and cannot be mistaken for the orange colour that is used to paint the air cleaner housing.
  18. Are there Capris in Mustang clubs? Are there Chevelles in Goat clubs? Are there 'Cudas in Challenger clubs? Are there G35s in 350Z clubs? Or, perhaps more accurately, in terms of lineage... Are there Escorts in Focus clubs? Are there K-cars in PT Cruiser clubs? Are there Loti in DeLorean or Mr. 2 clubs? Are there Brats in WRX clubs? Are there Beetles in Porsche clubs? Are there Fox's in S4 clubs? Are there 240Zs in S14 clubs? -------------------------------------------------------------- Are there reactionaries in www.classiczcars.com?
  19. Guys, T There is no big issue here - every topic in the "Action in the Forums" section has its home under an appropriate Forums folder. All we are really talking about is creating a new folder alongside all of the other folders that will simply be named "Other Datsuns" or "Skylines et al"... Not banishing the skyline brigade to another website! Its a no-brainer: valid topic=logical forum home. At least that way we will be able to search for skyline-related posts a little more easily. Just do it.
  20. Answer: Because you locked the door when you got outROFL
  21. I don't think you are causing problems either..to the contrary, I find all of the 240K/skyline posts very interesting. For that reason I think they should be grouped under another forum heading...so that I can find them again!

Lee, Thanks for update. Did you get the foam padding from the 'states as well? How long did the covers take to arrive? Did you have to pay much duty? Also, which trimmer are you using? I would be very interested in seeing your car when it is back on the road... send me an email or PM when you have it and are free! I am awaiting a replacement radiator at the moment and am a bit reluctant to drive my car in the current weather with is losing water the way it is. I will be turning my attention to the interior when the rad. is done. Hayden.

Very nice but I'm after as authentic a finish as I can manage. The best option looks to be getting some tan reproduction seat coverd from the states...they even have the four metal vents! http://www.classicdatsun.com/

Thanks for all of your input. I agree that a large number of power outlets is necessarry as is natural lighting. The garage will have one window facing into our yard and 2-3 clear panels in the roof. I plan to have a 'mezzanine' area which will be two thirds of the floor width. This will allow light through to floor level on one side of the garage and hopefully provide enough space under the roof to allow upright walking. The mezzanine will have a fold down ladder for access. I will not have a phone/data connection to the garage (it is a place of rest!) but radio/stereo is a good idea. I will have a cold water basin but no loo (bathroom)...Discovered that if your property has more than two then the local city council hikes up the rate$...and we already have two in the house. I will defintely paint the floor but am unsure about plastering the walls which will be brick. I kind of like the idea of a light garage with rustic walls but I think plaster would just make it too glary. I'll post some plans when I have them. Thanks again.
