  1. Mally, I really wanted a 328, but they jumped a bit. I could probably get a ratty one in my range, and with a little TLC, make it nice. But I've honed my sights on the 76-79 carbed 308 models. Not unlike the 240Z, they are lighter, easier to work on, and more "pure" than the later Ferrari 3x8 cars. Best of all, they are relatively cheap. They are tons of fun - really great sports cars. They aren't the quickest, but man can they handle and make all the right noises...look great too. I am pretty excited about acquiring one - it's the culmination of 20+ years of really wanting to get an F-Car. I'd love to keep the 240Z, but I also own a '66 Jaguar E-Type, so something has to go (to make room and help fund my new purchase).
  2. Yep, agreed. The reason I am selling the Z is that I am looking to acquire a Ferrari. You can't believe some of the junk I've looked at and the outrageous prices. As I know Ferraris pretty well, I understand there's a built-in premium, but what some people would pay is ridiculous - yet some of these cars seem immune to the economic downturn.
  3. CK1, Good luck - I am trying to sell mine as well. I still maintain the Z is a hard sell outside this group. From my experience, it seems people believe there are plenty of examples left, and unless they really want a Z, they tend to be tire kickers. I've had 20+ people look at my car. I've had people almost yell at me because I am selling my car too cheap. I've had awards given to my car. I've seen worse cars sell for more than mine. I've advertised on eBay, ClassicZCars, Craiglist, ZCAR.com, local paper, AutoShopper and a few others. Yet, I still can't sell it. Leads me to believe that there isn't as strong a market for these as many think. I am sure I'll get heat for saying it, but frankly, I am tired of low ball offers and tire kickers.

Too true - can't tell you how many people have asked about my car (it's for sale) and did nothing but kick the tires...
  5. Can you imagine living such a full and rewarding life, then get to enjoy it for 100 years? Looks like it was a wonderful day for Mr. K and friends and family.
  6. I am running a 5-speed with (allegedly) a 4.11 R180. I say "allegedly" as I haven't confirmed...my suspicion is that it's a 3.90 since acceleration is nice, but not off the charts. However, I did take a spin in another board member's Rebello stroker car, and while his was quicker, I didn't think my car was that much slower. I pull about 3,000 rpm in 5th at 60 mph FWIW. 4th and 5th barely have a difference, so to the points made previously, you may want to stick with the 3.54
  7. I'm selling my car for $1000 less and I think it's in as good or better condition. My paint is rough, but the under carriage is way cleaner. Good luck to the guy selling it - if he can get that, he's a better man than me I guess...
  8. Anyone there this year? My car won the "diamond in the rough award"

Undercat is correct - 77 / 78 had the raised floor, 75 / 76 did not. I remember when I was younger, there were 4 Zs in my group of friends - my '76, 2 '77s, and a '78 (they were blue with exception of my green) - mine was the only one with the "normal" or "lower" rear floor. FWIW.
  10. Arne, I don't doubt that you haven't got offers - you do have a nice car. I suppose as Carl says, it's reaching the "right" person...seems to me that there is a little cash waiting on the sidelines, at least in my case.
  11. Right - question is, would you get high teens (or more)? I have my '72 240Z for sale. It's no show car, but mostly original and in excellent shape for an East Coast car. I've had TONS of people look at it and say "you should sell this no problem", yet I can't get anyone to bite. I'm only looking for $5K...I've seen worse cars go for $6.5K + Of course, you know this, but what you'd get is usually different than what you want.
  12. Plus, don't you want to be the unique one? Of all the cars you listed, there's only 1 280Z - that's a really cool thing, no? I posted about the Allaire Rolling Iron show last year (I'll be there again this weekend) - a good sized show. I was the only Z - sandwiched between a '51 or '52 MG and a '66 Chevy Truck. BOTH were immaculate, but the guy with the truck couldn't believe all the people coming to see my little Z car (faded paint and all). I could care less about the award (although a nicer car than mine would probably win easy), I love the attention - especially in a show like that.
  13. No mean to be harsh, but you're all wrong (with exception of Dave). I take my Z (which isn't as nice as all yours) and I draw a crowd EVERY TIME. You could have old Corvettes, hot rods, name it - the Z always reels 'em in. I'll be at a major car show this weekend, and I'll be willing to be that my car draws a huge crowd. Fill you in next week.
  14. until

Saturday, August 29th, 2009 (rain date 8/30) 11th Annual New Jersey Z Club car show. The show will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn Bridgewater, the address is 500 Promenade Blvd, Bridgewater, New Jersey, USA 08807 and is sponsored by Somerset Nissan. See www.njzclub.com for more details.
  15. You guys rule! You got about 10 years on me though, I was 18 in '86 (although I STILL had a 1976 280Z at the time) - still great times! You wouldn't happen to have an electronic copy of the picture?
  16. Does anyone know where the original window sticker was placed on 240Zs when on the dealer lot? Want to put my repro window sticker in my car for an upcoming show...if anyone has an idea, please let me know. Thanks!

Mitchell, Look this over and if it's ok, I'll print and send you the copy via snail mail Thanks!

Marc - I can't seem to send the attached via PM, here is the sticker I made for you. Let me know if you need any changes.

Dan, Thanks - I suppose I could go that way for Marc and Mitchell, but I saw another '72 invoice that had the code...not sure if this varied from dealer to dealer? Marc / Mitchell - let me know what you want me to do...I have both of yours ready to go. One final question - what was the original placement of the invoice when these were on the dealer lot? Passenger window? I am going to be showing my Z this weekend at a car show, and I think the repro sticker is a nice touch... Thanks! Rich

Arne, Great - thanks! Now, just need LA's port of entry code

Would delaer installed options (e.g., slotted mags) appear on invoices? If so, any idea of pricing? Also, if anyone has the port of entry code for Los Angeles, I'd appreciate it. That way, I can complete the stickers for Travel'n Man and mgmoreau. Thanks!

Got my window sticker printed - looks great! I am going to have my Z in a local car show, and I want to display the sticker in the window as it was back in '72. Does anyone know (Carl maybe?) where these were placed when on the dealer lot?
  23. rdefabri posted a post in a topic in Open Discussions
Sure - no problem. Here's what I need: Serial number Engine number Color Dealer (this is a guess, unless you actually know it...I picked a dealer that was close to where I purchased the car. Look at the dealer directory that's located elsewhere in this thread) Port of Entry (similar to the dealer - I picked a port close to the "dealer" I used) Any other details you want under the "equipment" section

Don't think that's a '72 sticker. It's a '71 - looks to be same as Arne's. The Datsun 510 is the '72 sticker - same as what Zulaytr posted. The '73 is similar, but adds the 610 to the wording. Anyway, I took the 510 / '72 sticker and modified with my data (attached). I can do this free of charge - I am proficient in Photoshop - as time permits.

Ok - I have mine nearly done. 2 things I need: 1) what is the proper font? I've searched high and low, I can't replicate the "dot matrix" style on the others. I used the Underwood Champion, an IBM Selectric, etc...it's not exact. 2) what are the "port of entry" numbers? The locations are in this thread, but not the corresponding code / number. As my car came from Virginia, I am using Baltimore as the main port of entry - need the code! Thanks! I'll post mine when done...I also saved it as a blank in Photoshop if anyone wants to make their own?
