Still smokin
I am starting to believe that as well. If the atmosphere can handle another hundred miles, I am still going to run the detergent course. Perhaps then I could get away with only valve seals. I find it hard to believe that the compression rings are so tight and the oil rings are shot. Like I said befor there is no power loss - it pulls like a new car.

Still smokin
Update - Got her licenced and ran her hard for about 100 miles. It was embarassing to drive, she billowed smoke at stop lights and all the rubber seals in the car are shot so she fills with smoke sometimes - it really does have that Cheech and Chong look going on sometimes. Funny but not funny at the same time. I believe it may be more than one problem or the other... likely both oil rings and valve seals. I say that because of the volume of oil consumed in 100 miles and it seems there is always a certain amount of smoke belching out. I checked the oil befor the run and topped it a little. When done with the hard hundred I parked it in the shed while it rained for a week (still raining). Checked it yesterday befor starting her (to flick some oil around) and there was barely enough oil to wet the very tip of the dipstick. A tiny black dot. Not done yet, I intend to change the oil today and try the deisel detergent oil for 100 more smokey miles. Hope the police don't pull me over - it really looks bad.

Still a rookie - I get it now, but looking around I noticed there is no start date for the part in the microfiche, although it did show the change in 74 to the newer type.

Carl - My 73 is in the 120XXX range build date 9/72 and has the splash pan and superfluous electric fuel pump. My vin preceeds his. Are you saying dealers removed the pans to improve ventilation?

Anyone looking for an uncracked dash from a 73 240z?
I could live with that - it would match the three screw SUs.

Anyone looking for an uncracked dash from a 73 240z?
Is that the same as the 73? or even close? I am looking.

Anyone looking for an uncracked dash from a 73 240z?
Thanks Mike - I sent him a note, I doubt if he will respond. Craigslist has constant scammer alerts and alot of vendors will not deal with people out of state or even city leave alone the country. Worth a try anyway.

Heater cables - 73
Mike/Ron - I am not quite sure what I am looking for yet, but currently I have three hanging cables. Two on the drivers side and the longest one on the pass side. I have their purposes figured out now (thanks to Graeme, Dan and an hour on my back), but at least need the screwdown cable/sheath clips (and screws) for the previously mentioned items. Do you know if there are supposed to be any cable hangars on them? Thanks BTW - I have heat on the windshield now

Heater cables - 73
It's the best I've seen yet.

Heater cables - 73
Short and to the point: The PO had disconnected all the heating cables and didn't ship the required parts to reassemble it:mad:. Any pictures avaiable. I couldn't find a thread with the specifics - if there is one please line me up. Thanks.

What Other Z/Datsun would/do you own and why?
I'm still going to have another early 240, hopefully a turnkey or close, like to have a ZX turbo, 300zxTT, the 370 is becoming interesting, like to have an older skyline 510 - someday I like the pickups GTR - same as everyone else Pretty well like all of them.

Vintage Z for sale
Why would anyone use "buy it now" when the vendor was accepting offers. I find that strange.

What ticks you off about Ebay
The shill - I have to say that is one of the most annoying things for me. It is very common.

Eibach psrings arrived, WAY SHORTER than stock?????
As I said earlier - I have done it (Eibachs) on both the 240 and the 280 - they are not the same springs. In the 240 the fronts are (IIRC) the same length as the rears but as stated above the 280s are a different set of springs, but work perfect. See attached pic. As a matter of fact the 240 type stand too tall for me - I am thinking about cutting them at least 1 coil in the front. 77Z.bmp

Still smokin
Gotto say Bruce she runs hard - the carbs are great. Might even be sensitive, she is either accelerating or decelerating with the tiniest throttle movement - she literally rocks in lower gears. Might be a getting used to thing, my 280 is not nearly as sensitive. Gotta couple of days of rain coming, so probably be Monday befor I can give her a reaming.

Still smokin
Update - got home yesterday and got at the car this morning First thought was better roll her over without plugs - maybe a drop of ATF left in the cylinders. Pulled the plugs and gave her a couple of rolls..... ATF spray painting on the shed gyprock, six feet straight as a bullet, what a mess. Anyway it was a good start or prestart. Rings must be tight. In with the plugs (after a wipedown) and varroom - started very nicely and within ten seconds the shed was completely filled with smoke. Had to open the main door to let it blow out - Couldn't move as one of the tire had gone flat. Took about five minutes befor it was clear. Blew up the tire and then I had my way with her. I gave her a nice ten minute run, performing very nice, but.... still smokin. Snow is holding off, so I'm gonna get her licenced and try to put a couple of hundred hard miles on her with detergent oil (after dumping the current load), hopefully that will do it.

Eibach psrings arrived, WAY SHORTER than stock?????
They are shorter for the 280s, not so much for the 240 - I wondered befor I installed them. For the front I don't think you will even need the compressors. I can assure you when I matched them with HPs they were very nice - lowered her about 1" from stock. The 240 version is a different bag of nails altogether.
