35 Years of Z Poster
I just got this cool poster. It was commissioned by Nissan to commemorate the unveiling of the 35th anniversary 350z. There were only 50 limited edition prints made, and they were only given to Nissan employees, none were sold to the public. The red 240Z in the background looks like my '72. -Mike

another low vin for sale
I agree with everything you said Jim. I was not one of the people pressuring him to sell right away, but he told me the same thing. I REALLY want a blue low VIN series one car, and I'm hoping this will be it. I am prepared to go pretty high to get it (if it pans out as described), although due to space constraints I will need to sell my low milage 72 and #331 (which is a real project car). I will keep #237. -Mike

another low vin for sale
I talked to him breifly today. He is out of town, but is sending some pics when he gets back and then I'll be headed to check it out. I'll let you guys know how it goes. It won't be cheap, but it sounds like a nice car. -Mike

My $100 Craigslist Series I Earliest Automatic
Wow! $100 would be great for a complete parts car in general, but for a series one car that is outstanding, and for what is now the earliest automatic with the 2400 valve cover that is incredible. I agree with Carl, it is amazing that some people don't know the value of early Z's and their parts. -Mike

New 71 240Z owner...possibly
If you didn't already buy the other one, you should check out this one as well. http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/car/606592112.html -Mike

What's the earliest Auto Z?
Hi Kurt, Actually, its not my info. I guess it is Carl's since it is from his zhome.com site. I think all of the specific VIN info is the "as yet reported" though, and not meant to be a definitive guide. I'm sure Carl would be interested in getting any updated info as to the lowest 71 VIN, the earliest automatic, or the latest 2400 valve cover. -Mike

#279 listed on ebay
Well, you were right. #279 didn't sell the first time. It sold at the end of the second listing for $7,000. Not bad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280206514819&rd=1 -Mike

Might be on Ebay soon...if so don't abuse me too bad
Carl, I think Randy's car looks to be in very good shape, but those prices sound kind of high for a 1973 with a cracked dash and door panels that need to be replaced. An uncracked dash is at least $1000 and new door panels are $600 or more. I don't recall seeing what the mileage on the car was, but I thought that 1973s were somewhat less valuable than other 240z's due to the the emission changes that year. I think it would also be important to include some shots of the floors with the carpets removed. -Mike

Loop pile carpet, any recent purchases? (2008)
These are the front floor mats from another 1972. I forgot to take pictures of the ones in my 5/72 before it got dark, but these are the same style. Note the brown backing. -Mike

Loop pile carpet, any recent purchases? (2008)
This is the carpet from Too Intense Restoration for the series 1 cars. Bound edges, but no cut outs for the cargo straps, it is much lighter (maybe because it doesn't have the spray on back coating), it has the back padding made of colored threads, and the pattern is not as accurate as the original. -Mike

Loop pile carpet, any recent purchases? (2008)
This is some very faded carpet from a 3/71 (an early series 2) parts car I got recently. It has the same clear backing as the earlier carpet, but the cargo straps are lower and there are flaps for the jack and tool storage compartments. -Mike

Loop pile carpet, any recent purchases? (2008)
The are pictures of early carpet. The first three pics are from an 11/69 production car. The rubber mat is unique to some of the 69 cars. The other pics are from a 5/70 (this carpet is currently in my #237). Notice the clear backing and less defined loops (not just from wear) on both. -Mike

Loop pile carpet, any recent purchases? (2008)
I am going to post some various carpet pics for comparision. This carpet is in my low mileage 5/72 (a series 3 car). It is in like new condition. Notice the more defined loops and the grey backing, which are different than what I have seen in earlier cars. -Mike

Loop pile carpet, any recent purchases? (2008)
Hey Arne, Can you post some pics of the front and back of your original carpet? I have a couple of different pieces that I am not sure if they are original or not. If they are not original, they seem to at least be a higher quality than what is available now. -Mike

Datsun Dealer list from 1971?
Arne, I found a dealer list from September 1971 in a parts car I got recently. It had a few differences, so I am posting the Oregon and Washington dealers and the covers. This dealer list also has the Canadian and Mexican dealers, but the other one I posted (from 1972 I believe) only has US dealers. -Mike

Firewall Grommet
According to this old thread, it looks like that is correct, and the original grommets aren't available anymore. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22558&highlight=early+cable+hood+release I will have to check my cars to confirm this and see what their grommets look like. -Mike

Datsun Dealer list from 1971?
Arne, There is no date on this one, but I am pretty sure it is the original one that came with my 1972 240z. Hopefully that is close enough. -Mike

Datsun Dealer list from 1971?
I have a list at home Arne. I'll take a look and post tonight, if no one else beats me to it by then. -Mike

Cali members beware!
Lots of police departments are using Chargers now. Seattle got several last year. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003692967_drivers04m.html I saw an unmarked one the other day that had someone pulled over downtown. The flashing blue and red lights were hidden in the grill.

#279 listed on ebay
Was it #237 by chance that you were looking at in NJ? If so, I bought it and it is in decent shape but I would not say unmolested or zero rust. I had to replace the floors and there is a major rust issue in the passenger cowl/firewall that will need to be fixed properly. Of course I paid much less than $7300 for it though, so all in all it was not a bad deal. -Mike
