  1. i love the GTO kit but it is a bit spendy, and alters the look of the z into something else. now if i wanted a ferrari "wanna-be" i'd be all over it!
  2. come on! someone has to know the answer, even if it is "NO!"
  3. hmm.... i do werk at an appliance warehouse...do i need any special tools to do this? hammer and screwdriver...?
  4. so i have an electric in-line fuel pump, im going to be swapping this motor into another Z. "the book" doesnt explain this procedure, since the "L" series came with a mechanical pump. help me! also, does anyone know any "do's and dont's" for swapping a L28(carb'd) into a 240z chassis? i know the basics, but every swap is different. any info will be helpful.
  5. got a 71 240, looking to stuff fatties and still maintain good aero. need either a dealer, or a known fabricator who has done this before.
  6. my ignorance has been dually noted..... please hang up and try again.j/k . thanks never thought about slicing and dicing a donor (which i have 2 of) i was going to go that steel plate route, but didnt think of how to bend the metal...
  7. im wondering if anyone knows a place to buy, or a way to fab up a cover where the heater and radio is. im going to be racing this Z so that stuff isnt needed. id like to replace it with instrument gauges if possible?
  8. looks like someone squished a twinki.....kinda makes wanna cry....
  9. are some of you ppl ill?!?!?!? first ,the drag increase will only take place AFTER the vehicle speed reaches 100+ MPH. and a stock Z would not be very stable at that speed anyway (the pilot would be have to be suicidal.) now, on the other hand if mods have been done to the vehicle, greater care should have been taken into consideration, since the fenders can be flared, or replaced with a "widebody" kit. im currently looking at fabbing my own fenders for this very purpose.
  10. does anyone have any ideas of how to fix the battery tray rust through? mine is completely rusted through the wheel well. and i need to repair it, inexpensively mind you! im not one for OEM looks, so it can be ugly, it just has to be functional ( in other words i wanna fix it and still have the battery tray there) the battery tray itself is pretty rusted too...
  11. actually there are three 5spd trannies. 77-80,and 81-83 and the t5 from the turbo z.
  12. yeah true that, but hasnt a raced car's frame been warped beyond "normal" wear and tear? (i know a 71' z obviously has a beat up frame already-its been 35 years right?)i do know what im looking for and what class im racing in, thats why a 300HP monster l28 isnt going to be nessesary. but a WELL equipped 200hp would be perfect(as far as HP goes) also my example of brakes failing was simply an example. its a no brainer that brake checks , along with other checklists, will be done thoroughly before each race. i would hate to roll my car because a susp. bushing blew out. and as for parts , thats where everyone here (who is MOST helpful) comes into play. i ask, i research, i inquire more, and come up with a conclusion. thanks .
  13. thanks fellas... my main concern was having to go back through a vehicle to comb it down, when i could go through it one time and it be done. like i said i could buy a race prepped sled, check the braking system, and find it needs new lines. OR, i could go through my own project and replace every bit of the braking system anyway to ensure quality parts were used, and never lose an ounce of sleep wondering if those "autozone special" brake pads are going to get me into the next round of soloII .my point being, why do something twice , when it only needs to be done ONCE...there are a lot of people that will tell you anything to sell a car. and ill be damned if im gonna take apart "roger rabbit's" toy car to see if he really has a diesel crank in his L28!??!?!? and if no reciepts? then i pass? then what if he was telling the truth and i just passed by an awesome deal! What then?
  14. DUDE!thanks! that website kicks arse!
  15. im wanting to know what the longest geared rear end would be for the R180 rear end. the race track i attend is a VERY fast track and i dont want to run out of RPM's halfway down the straight? help me please
  16. thats true but i dont want trust someone elses work-brake failure at the track is never cool!, and neither is losing sleep over thinking if bozo the clown torqued the motor mounts down right. or if he feeds a line of bull to ya about how bored his l28 out to a 3.3 , etc.
  17. i ate two hondas (civic and integra)and a turbo Z32 on the I-205 when i FIRST got my car, the ride home was inspiring. then a week later i beat a lancer evo (NOT A JOKE) its only a 74 260/L28 stroker and triple mikkies. im mean come on! that lan evo is a 35k car and AWD! i spin the wizz outta my tires at 80mph! WTF? i lub z cars! west side Z's 4 life! HOLLA! had to make fun of the retard ricers!
  18. :lick: im new to the z's , where are the tranny codes so i can know what year of 5spd i have? are all five speed's the same? how do i know which one i have? the 5 spd. i have now is VERY close ratio, i shift so much my arm hurts..j/k also, will any clutch/flywheel assembly fit? or will i need a specific year? its an L28 block, if that helps any?
  19. thanx fellas, but im just going to build my own instead of trusting someone else's work. (what was i thinking?)
  20. i agree with gary, rust is the biggest issue with these cars. other than that who cares! go wild and have fun! thats what im doing/learning to do.
  21. im looking to race scca events with a Z ,i need to know if anyone has experience in this category? i know phred does, but i also need suspension info, safety info, and drivetrain info.
  22. that is soooo sad. hey where did all those bricks come from? and why isnt the ferrai smashed up ? it looks staged. like it was staged in arkansauce?!?!? escanlon!
  23. good one ,dip.while he's at it he could cut a brake line or two... by the way thanks for the info this morning. it was "super".
  24. fixed, just bought a foot long prybar, in between the dust cover on the diff. one crack with my "kung fu thrust" and it popped right out. thanks justaZcarguy (my uncle). peace.
  25. thank you all. i think im going to like being part of this "web-clan" you guys are so much more helpful than those ricers ive been associating with. autozone said they'd get me a zx dizzy complete for 110$ ? sound good? its rebuilt so i wont have to play with that whole "ball bearings are loose" ordeal. oh yeah, does it have to be a 79-80 dizzy? or can it be turbo? thank you all again for your generous support of OPB...oh wait, thats on later tonight.....
