My '70 just has the plain OIL cap.

The '65 thru '70 Datsun roadsters. SPL311; SRL411; had the hand throttles. On the '68 2000 roadster I had when I was living in Omaha, that hand throttle sure came in handy on those cold winter mornings.:classic:

The only all Blue wire coming off the combination switch is the common for the wipers. There is also a blue wire which controls the power antenna lead from the fuse bos (20A0 through the switch to the antenna. That line also goes to the radio. Don't know if this will help. If I can get to my car and check, I'll let you know if there's a connector you may be missing.

Check the third fuse down right side. That controls all the sidemarker, parking, and tail lights.

Alan et al: I remember being on Okinawa in late '69 and the Nissan dealer there already had literature on the HLS30 240Z's. Remember that the Ryukyus were American administered at that time and as such the traffic patterns dictated left hand drive, so the cars sold by Nissan at the time were mostly US models, since a large portion of the sales were to American Military. I believe it was that early sighting, along with the three roadsters I owned that brought me to love of the early Z.

Try this to see the rolling radius of the sizes you're looking at. For base size, I use the 195/70 HR14 size. That was the original recommended fitment, so compare with that.

Beandip, You're one year minus two days older than I. 12 Feb 1940. I'm using my '70 Z 4 speed, mostly stock, as my daily driver during the summer. No airconditioning in steamy Maryland, 35 miles NE of Baltimore.:classic: I have a beautiful Thai wife and a daughter of 8 years old.. My steering rack seems to have tightened up. I haven't come in contact with anything, but the steering has gotten very heavy. I recall the thread about the missing clamp, and will check that this evening. Is there anything else I can try without disassembling the front end?

My 70 has a switch like the one you were wondering about. My radio is a cassette AM-FM unit and the switch is mounted on the dash right below the hazard switch. I thought that was the standard configuration because my previous 70 was like that also.:classic:

I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow. It's raining right now and getting a little dark. If my diamond embossed vinyl isn't too attached, I'll try and get a shot of the whole bracket. Can't guarantee that, though. There's not a mark on that vinyl and I don't think I want to tear it up.

Tooch, When I left Offutt in 1980, there weren't many early Z's around Omaha and I took a very nice '71 to Athens, Greece from there. Not a great move as the Z got totaled (as I almost did) less than two blocks from home. In a couple or three years I plan on doing a driving tour with my Z and will be visiting some of the many friends I still have in the area. Hope you're still there.:classic:

I still need to find the door/hatch keys

The ones on E-Bay are identiical to the ones in my pocket. I recently found a shop that had blanks for the ignition key, but am still looking for the door/ hatch keys.

That is the color that was on my '71. And you're right . The Ford color is a much deeper blue.

That blue looks like one of my past Z's, a '71 that I bought from a Mustang restorer in Omaha, hence the Mustang blue. That car died an untimely death in a suburb of Athens, Greece by a Citroen running a huge STOP sign and T-boning me right at the drivers side door.

I know. It just happened. I didn't have any side, marker or tail lights, so I replaced the blown fuse. Turned on the switch and (poof) smoke and the smell of phenolic burning, switched off, but the damage was done, melted through on the inboard fuse post. I'm going to have to jury rig until I can locate a good fuse block and cover for a '70 240Z.

I'd be happy to recommend Z-Therapy. Their rebuilt carbs are as good and pristine as they say and their service is excellent. I couldn't be more satisfied with the set I got from them.:classic:

I had a '69 510 2 door back in '75-77. I drove that thing from Albuquerque to Omaha in a horrible rainstorm once and it tried to die on me after a fillup in central Kansas. I nursed it to the next place I could stop; poured a couple of cans of Drygas into the tank. Got it started and drove another 200 miles home.:cheeky:

I don't know what the hell happened, but the fuel system checked out fine and it starts without problem now. :classic: Oh well , got a badly pulling right rear brake drum turned, so I can now hit my brakes without fear of swinging in to the lane to the right of me.

Went to the office for a couple of minutes this morning. Came out, got in, started normally. About a mile down the road, going up a grade, everything died, sputtering, nursed it along until I could safely get it over to the side. Fuel filter almost empty. No more fuel being pulled in. Looks like another short downtime. Oh. I didn't mention that this was in a driving rain storm. Great Saturday Morning.
