Radiator Source
Radiator shop can recore for you. Takes a couple of days, depending on how busy they are and what you want. I used to go to a shop that didn't paint the top tank and was very careful about soldering. Then, I'd polish up the brass tank for a custom look. I recommend a Lakes core, but Modine is good too.

Instrument Panel Modification
It's aluminum. The strange horizontal lines are corrosion. Take some 360 or finer sandpaper and sand it. It will look like brushed aluminum when you're done. Clear coat after.

C110: RB20 or L28?
RB conversions are certainly getting popular here in Japan, especially for Hakosuka Skylines (see my friend Ito's web site). I personally would go with the L28 option. Less hassle and proven build ups. There are even books on how to upgrade and modify the engine for more performance. I like to work on my car, so EFI doesn't cut it for me - I need carbs. Consider the market and the rego rules. These are the driving factors in whatever you choose to do. No sense in trying to build an engine if the parts are difficult to get or exhorbitantly priced . . . unless you're building something of collector value (S20).

KGC110 Skyline for sale in U.S.!
Parts catalog shows grainy pictures, but the "short nose" 4 cyl C110s had no horizontal bar, and the "long nose" 6 cyl C110s had the horizontal bar.

KGC110 Skyline for sale in U.S.!
The GTX did come with dual Hitachi carbs. As you can see in the pictures, they're flat-tops. However, the Japanese had some round mouth flat-tops as opposed to the Z square mouth ones. As for the grille, maybe, but I don't think so. A lot of these cars have been "upgraded" to look like a GT-R. This one, for example, has fender flares that did not come on the GTX, nor are they molded.

Ebay scammer
If you paid by credit card, all you have to do is contact them and explain that you charged it, and never got the product. They will credit your account and go after the guy. You would have to provide some "evidence" to the credit card issuer that you "reasonably" tried to work things out. Copies of e-mails are a very useful in this situation. I had this happen to me and after I sent one last e-mail stating that I was going to contact my credit card company, the stuff arrived within 5 days, postmarked one day after I sent the e-mail. People will do everything to protect their credt rating. FWIW

Still good deals out there!!
Nice find. Good intentions. Armor All? No way! The stuff actually dries out the dash if you don't continuously apply the stuff. I personally use silicone based products on my vinyl, plastic and rubber.

good news guys! grills and spoilers
Wow, that was fast. The grille has metal wire and bracing behind it, so it would need to come off if it's going to be replicated. Guys, this stuff is getting hard to come by in Japan, so it would be better to show some interest. Heck, you could even start to export them back to Japan!

This must be a joke!
My favorite "rare" part is the two-barrel downdraft Hitachi carburetor and manifold for L-24, L-26, L-28 engines. JDM, of course. That particular set-up is made for the L-20, and though it will bolt up, really won't work.

Never underestimate what a "simple question" may bring forth. Grand entrance indeed.

L-series blocks supposed to be all the same except for minor differences like sump shape and oil pickup location. Alan?

This must be a joke!
I've bought from this guy and he is a good seller. If some newbie who doesn't know any better bids and wins . . . well, P.T. Barnum said it best.

In Japan, they had round mouth flat tops vice square mouth flat tops found in the US. They pop up from time to time on Yahoo Japan.

Wagon wheels
Victor, I don't think the wheels on the wagon are TRD. I think they are period correct Campagnolos from Italy. Check out these shots from Uchida's web site. He's not selling wheels, just the decals. And here's set on Yahoo Japan http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r22679441

What kind of 5-speed is this?
Looks like an FS5W71B. See Carl Beck's ID chart here: http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/69-83TrannyShifterDrawing.jpg This transmission looks the same as a 4-speed, so make sure it's a 5-speed.

Early Datsun 5 speeds: need Z g/box guru
CG10s and CG110s came with 5 speeds. Early ones probably had the FS5C71A three piece case, and later ones came with the FS5C71B two piece case. I swapped out my FS5C71A 4-speed to a FS5C71B 5-speed. Mine probably came out of a Z because it's a little shorter than the 4-speed. It came with a bent stick, but my Skyline uses a straight stick. Anyone need a bent stick that will fit a FS5C71A/FS5C71B?

A good locksmith can make you a key. Might be a little expensive, though.

Return of my car
Alan, I live in Zushi City, just south of Yokohama. It takes about an hour or so by car (toll roads - Yoko-Yoko & Wangan) and an hour and an half by train (if you make the right connections). He treats me good. The prices are high by American standards, but apparently, in line with general Japanese pricing. As far as being "difficult," he has his reasons. In my case, it was about the cost. He thought it would be too high to pay all at once, and since the wife always goes with me, he reasoned that money/car may cause marital problems. As he put it, "The car is part of the family, and if the family doesn't agree, he can't, in good conscience, do the work and take the money." It may be a novelty thing, too. Me being Japanese-American, and my car being Y-plated, it causes quite a stir in his shop amongst his other customers. You know, "You have a gaijin okyakusan?" with images of a tall white or black man. "Or what is this Y-number plate?" He also likes to talk. Going to his shop is a minimum 1-2 hour discussion about cars, etc. BTW, the wife goes because she likes to get out of the normal routine and is amazed that the two of us can converse (his English - almost non-existent and my Japanese - marginal) and she can't understand a darned thing. But car-talk is car-talk right?
