slow drip of gas off air cleaners on webers
What is the fuel level set to? 25.0mm from the top of the main jet well is optimal.

I don't think my booster is working
The brake booster needs a vacuum source to function. The easy vacuum source in a typical car is the intake manifold. The only other vacuum source I have seen used in a car is an electric vacuum pump. This is typically used on electric cars and on some cars with racing manifolds and/or big cams. FYI: SSBC Electric Brake Vacuum Pump Kit

Quick Hitachi Two Barrel Carb Question
At what rpm when hand reving should I see fuel coming out of the secondary venturi? I think the diaphram that opens the secondary throttle valve is not operating as it does not kick in until nearly WOT....~ 6000rpm when hand reving. FYI DAF-328 on 72 510

Weber fuel bowl question
The air filter should cover it. I have seen K&N and RAMFLO filters that do...take a look at the plate with the hole here:

Lemon Carb Cleaning
Well I am not impressed. I soaked for a few hours and it worked nicely at removing the crud and varnish. I let sit for another 24hrs and it removed a lot of cad/zinc plating and darkened the aluminum. I guess it is just an acid like any other. When I disassembled the carb it was messy and gooey in the internal passages and the brass jets and fittings darkened. It was ok after spraying with carb cleaner and oiling the iron base of the DAF328 Bottom line: I feel dumb as the fools that post this BS on the net. It is amazing that many just soak in the Pine-Sol and don't even take the carbs apart afterwards. I do not recommend this. I have a Weber DGV that I will boil in soapy water and see what happens. Stay away from acids unless you plan to replate the cad/zinc!!!!

WEber Internal spring
I think the 47605.009 spring finding is from this forum's efforts. When searching the net I only get 16 useful hits with "47605.009" . It will be interesting to see how fast this spreads to the Weber community.....even the Alpha guys don't seem to address this. BTW when I search most interesting and generalized car stuff, I usually get great hits from the Datsun community. Way to go guys!

Bravo! Excellent information, persistence, and scientific method. It will save us all a lot of headaches. THANKS "Snappy" is good.

really loud horn
I was working with a guy who installed train horns on his rig.... insane. He sounded it in a parking lot outside of an office building and hundreds came to the windows to look for the train. Just in case you want one: Train Horns & Train Horn Kits: Loudest Horns Available

Lemon Carb Cleaning
It's still too cold to try the lemon juice soup on the BBQ so I am trying another interesting carb degreaser: Pine-Sol. A Datsun 510 DAF-328 carb is now soaking in my basement. Have a look at this thread: The Pine Sol Degreaser Thread - ADVrider

Newbie with question
Looks like a $15k to $20k car. More pics will determine. The automatic transmission is usually not desired but the state of the car in the photos is very desired. The fact your mom is the original owner makes it special as well. Good Luck selling it! She will find it to be a profitable investment. btw White with red interior is my fav colour combo.

WEber Internal spring
That is good news. For the interest of all, Pierce Manifolds sell the 47605.009 strongest springs however they do not show up on the website.Just ordered 3 last week.

Alignment recommendations for modified 240Z
Read this thread. The first column in the table (Coffey) has good targets for alignment. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/wheels-tires-brakes-s30/47764-alignment-shops-arghhhh.html

Sure take photos and post here. Rust is the big problem with these cars. If you can take clear photos of the common rust areas and they appear good the the value will be more.

The push rod has the seal however a coating of sealant on the master does not hurt.

Master Triple Carburetor Linkage set up instructions
Great topic again Stephen! I have thought about this and have been only able to resolve as: There are two targets: 1. Idle Balance 2. Off-Idle Balance Method#1 For setting idle, just the stops on each carb should be used along with the air bypass screws to ensure even flow for all carbs using an SK Syncrometer. For setting Off-Idle there is no adjustment. Just ensure the ball rods are exactly the same length as measured off the car. Fit them at idle and take up all the slack by pulling upon the Actuation Arms as you tighten them to the Actuation rod. Method#2 For setting Off-Idle, balance at 3k rpms by moving only the Actuation Arms and locking them to the Actuation rod. Set the idle with air correction adjustments and stop adjustments . The bottom line is that the linkage adjustments either compromise idle or they compromise off-idle.

The old Weber/choke question
I would pull plugs and crank for ~ 1min. or more to get oil into the head and to build up oil pressure. Look through the oil cap hole for oil lubricating the cam. Start engine only after oil is reaching the head.

WEber Internal spring
Bruce nice stuff... I was thinking about your post when responding above but thought nahhhh, 6 cylinders are pulling on one TV in yours but only one is pulling in Stephen's. I think it could be related to the seals and surfaces as you suggest. the webers have bearings making it more interesting... however the weber throttle valve shaft does pass through machined aluminum with tight tolerances. Here is an exploded view to bring you up to speed fast:

WEber Internal spring
Thus it seems to be air flow related. I am guessing the flow past the mostly closed throttle valve is too great, or the vacuum is pulling hard where the seals are and causing resistance Maybe the throttle plate has to be cracked open more and a smaller jet with less air correction used. This will prevent the TV from having to return so far.

WEber Internal spring
OK sorry got it.... just going crazy here in terminal A at Newark ......half reading half feeling hot and uncomfortable argghhhhhh. The Z I restored seemed to develop the same problem after 500mi. We are going to address it in a little over a month. Trying the stronger springs is a first step. (FYI the carbs were rebuilt with newer springs from Pierce but they were the 47605.027 medium ones)

I think it could be the A vs. C mechanical advantage in another thread. You should experiment. Here is Weber DCOE internal Spring data: Weaker 47605.012 47605.027 47605.009 Stronger You can buy the strong one here: Weber Throttle SPRING, Shaft Return
