Went out for a nice Drive in my Z today
Wow, yours looks really nice! I like the paint color a lot. Wheels look pretty sweet too. Hopefully once I get more repairs done, i'll have some time and cash left for things like paint and wheels .

Will 3.9 gears require a speedometer adjustment?
I have been looking to replace my busted diff in my 280Z for a while now. There are only 2 I have found around here and both seem awful expensive, but I'm running out of options. The first is the stock 3.54 gears from a 78 for $175 and the second is the 3.9 gears out of an 82 for $200. I figure for $25 I may as well go for the 3.9s. If I was to install this on my 77, would it require adjusting my speedometer or anything like that? Also, will this hurt my fuel economy on the highway all that much? I finally got up to 22mpg from the 17 I was getting and would kinda like to keep it at or above 20 if I can. Thanks.

How much do you think its worth?
Sounds really expensive to me. "NO" rust sounds awful too good to be true. It sounds like its going to cost a lot to get the inside done. My 77 only cost me $1,350. Others here can offer much more info than me.

Gasoline Prices, and your Z
These days, I drive my buick almost as much as the Z. Its gas mileage is almost exactly the same, but it doesn't have to rum premium, so thats $.20 a gallon I can save right there. It's basically come down to, "I don't really care anymore." because A) there is nothing I can do about it, I have to drive, and C) does it really cost ALL THAT MUCH MORE in the long run?

Gasoline Prices, and your Z
A little more than 12 gallons cost me $35.75 the other day. Totally sucks. How many miles per gallon do you guys usually get? Im gettin just about 17-18. I guess I never really thought about how bad it is for a little 2.8l fuel injected motor to get less than 20.

280Z bumpers DO have a use!
True story! The headlights also make a great place to sit and to set tools and other items.

280Z bumpers DO have a use!
Honestly, I kinda like the big ol bumpers. Something about them is attractive to me. I also do like the fact that they do offer some protection, can't complain too much about that.

Z car lover
Welcome indeed. I too am nearly alone with my Z here in KS. I can count on one hand the number of S-30 Z's I've seen here. I do enjoy driving a "rare" car, but finding used parts is no easy task.

280Z Riding alot better now
Wow, that has got to be great. How much were 4 struts? My car is in dire need of them, but i'm not sure how much a full set goes for.

How long have you had your Z?
Had mine since July of 2004. Still very new to the Z game.

Cold air induction for non turbo 280ZX
This dude is the guy that sold me mine. It really works great and is made of quality material. Never had any problems and I've had it for almost a year now. He also uses a pic from my car in the ad. :cheeky: pics of mine installed are in the link in my sig. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-280ZX-280Z-N-T-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-1975-1983_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQitemZ8055368408QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Z car parts includes Tokico Spring & Shocks
Those rotors look awesome! I also need to get me some shocks and springs for mine. The car bounces up and down when you push on it. How much did yours come to?

What Zs are meant to do
Damn, yours must be a nice one. I drove mine for 2 hours and that was about all I could take. It was a nice ride and all, but the noise and lack of cruse control made it a little less than cumfy. I drive my Buick on long trips. Not half the style or speed, but REALLY cumfy and quiet. The sound system is also superior in ALL ways. I will say, the new seats in mine were a joy when driving that 2 hours though. Better than the old ripped seats.

R200 Question???!!!
just my luck. My diff is fried and knocks and clunks when I drive. I try everywhere and all i can find is a diff off a 78 for $130. Here one just falls in your lap. Sorry man, but I just had to say it. Just lettin off a little steam, I'm glad you found what you wanted. I really need to move somewhre where I can find parts easier, or I need to get rid of this car.

Back on the Road, but exhaust leak...
Well, I had it put on last July, and since then there have been no problems at all. I had heard some things about possible heat issues, but so far there has been nothing and I drove it out in the 102 degree Kansas heat with no problems. As far as the tip goes, I really don't remember the #. I think earlier I said it was $20, but I think it was actually $25. It's just a chrome dual angle cut weld on. More pics can be found in my gallery here on in the link down in my sig.

Back on the Road, but exhaust leak...
Well, initially I planned on keeping the pre-muffler, but when I picked up the car, It had been removed. I was afraid it was going to be too loud, but its just fine really. I think it sounds great. Deep and crisp. I can really tell the car breathes better now and I'm glad I had the pre-muffler pulled. The nice thing about the Delta type mufflers is they make less interior noise. You can still hear it, but it isn't too loud at all. Even with the windows down it isn't bad at all.

Back on the Road, but exhaust leak...
I had a shop fab me an exhaust almost all the way back. All welded and muffler installed for $85. Its a 2.25" pipe and it seems to work fine for me. The muffler is a Flowmaster Delta 40 series and it costed about $85 too. Factor in $20 for the chrome dual tip and it all comes to $190. Not too bad I think. Big improvement over what I had before.

Poor mans cold air intake
A lot of time and maybe a few fingernails will get it. I had to work mine for a long time before I could get it on. I haven't removed it since. I just worked the rubber with my hands and just did my best to try and strech it.

R200 worth it??
oh wow, thanks for that. I was under the impression that all cars older than 81 came with the R180. Alrighty that makes more sence.
-
R200 worth it??
Actually, mine should just be the R180. AFIK, its the stock diff in this 77 280Z. The ones that I was able to locate are both junkyard parts. Z parts are NOT easy to come across around here, and the guys with these cars know it. This one guy tried to sell me a locked up 280ZXT motor for over $300 Fact is, I can front the $200 because I NEED a new diff, but I just want to make sure it is worth it performance wise. I can get a R180 with the 3.54 gears for $85, but I would like to make this an upgrade if I can.
-
R200 worth it??
Can you buy those for the R200? Or would I have to get a diff from a 200SX or 300ZX?
