Ah, cheers for the info, Alan. I happened to discover this picture on a uk skyline forum, perhaps you were one of the posters there? I remember hearing the same, that the purchaser was utterly screwed over. From the photo its very hard to discern whether it is completely shagged or not. Caveat emtpor indeed. Tom

It seems strange doesnt it, that they wouldnt just go for two sets of black flares, but this car certainly is quite desirable. Are you suggesting its not an authentic gtr?

Yeah the prob is that its 'lead replacement' fuel, and ive been told, like you said luke, that the quality of that fuel is abysmal. Ill have to check what head i have, is there any way of knowing without ripping the thing off? Given that its a 73' 240k though, the chances are that its an earlier brass valve seated head...Does anyone know of any particular brands of additive? I think i have heard of valve seat hardening too, lachlan, but im not sure where you could get it done and how exp. it is...

Petrol type for L series
Im wondering what type of petrol most of you use for your L series motors. I know they mostly adapt to unleaded quite well, but ive been told that its quite a dry fuel, and can lead to valve seat recession. Im currently using unleaded in my l24 and ive not had any problems, however, a friend mentioned to me that there are various lead or zinc based additives that can prevent vsr. How often would you add a product like this and is it necessary? Also, despite these engines not being designed for unleaded, is 98 octane beneficial, due to it burning cleaner? Any help would be much appreciated. Tom

Thats cool, michael, ive got a couple of gl grilles to muck around with. If i get fed up, i can always take the plunge and buy a replica. Having looked at all of your photos, the job seems to be fairly well done! Just for interests sake, on datsunworld.com [a british datsun ' history' website], the c110 enamel blue coupe is yours, no? Getting the C110 to handle
Dunno if it will help, but whiteline make swaybars for the 240k [as i was abt to buy one the other week]. With this in mind it may be fair to assume that they make other bits specific to the 240k too... In my brief exchange with the suspension guy who informed me of the whiteline swaybars, he reccomended some front camber adjusters [k-mac possibly?]. Koni adjustables or bilsteins would be the way to go in terms of dampers obviously, but dependant on your budget. Not sure if your aware, but its pretty easy to modify the front struts on a 240k to turn them into coil-overs...Hope any of that helps, Tom

Cheers alfadog, its great to see that theres such a following for 240k's in oz. I was starting to think that it was a lost cause, no-one in the street really knows the significance of my car...Anyways, sometime next week ill post pics of me beastie, as im 'abroad' atm...Im fairly certain the build date is around nov 73', havent looked at the build plate for a while. I figured the parts would be pricey, real bits would be stratospheric[?], so replica is the only go? Id like to have a chat to michael, as his soloution appears to be the most sensible. Ah and by the way, last week i spent a few days cannibalising my mates dilapodated 240k, so if anyone is interested in bits [it was a c110 gl auto sedan], just give me a yell.
