If your car is a rust bomb........
With my luck, I'd shred my leg every time I got something out of the hatch or washed the car. Think I'll pass on this idea. Zedrally: Is this what they call a "french" tickler? :stupid:

Blonde jokes
What do you call 1000 lawyers leaping off a cliff into the sea at sunrise? A good start for the day!

Factory spoiler?
That looks like the "Spook" that was designed (I believe) by the folks at BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) for their racing Z's in the early 70's, and was later mass produced and sold to the public. Some were added to new cars by US dealers. I don't know if it was authorized by the factory, but I don't believe it was ever produced by the factory.

Blonde jokes
Lawyers (as a group) are just rewarded for their work with a higher pay scale than mechanics (as a group). Honesty doesn't enter into it! It's not their wealth that makes them immoral and/or dishonest, it is what they do to earn those dollars that makes them so. Drug dealers also drive BMW 7 series, and Mercedes S class. Probably a few politicians as well. Maybe even a few honest people own them too! MOST lawyers I've known wouldn't know an honest mechanic from a dishonest one.......until bitten on the a$$ by the latter! Sorry if I offended any "lawyers, drug dealers, or politicians" out there. The thread was about jokes after all!

have any of you seen this?
Hi David: You aren't the only one who has errors after proof reading. I was routinely correcting my posts until I started composing in word, running a spell check, then cutting and pasting into the post. Too bad there isn't a spell checker available on site when posting. I downloaded the Teaser for Get Away in Stockholm #3 and (maybe it's just me, but) it was boring. Far less exciting than I expected. I hope the full length video's are better.

Blonde jokes
Oh, I wouldn't go so far as to say THAT. As a profession they probably aren't as dishonest and immoral as lawyers, but many are not angels either. I just like lawyer jokes!

Advice on interior and rust
Of course even a cheap air chisel is more expensive than the heat gun he already has. Kinda like using a machine gun to kill flys in my opinion.

Advice on interior and rust
Hi Derk: If you're having difficultly removing the tarmat, heat it more. As others reminded us earlier, you don't want to completely melt it to a liquid state, but the warmer you get it, the easier it will scrape up. I think you'd have to really try hard to MELT the tarmat. Mine never came close to melting, though it did get very hot. When I did mine, the air temp was in the mid 70's, AIR you mentioned your garage is in the 50's. You may need to apply more heat or to heat from below (the metal of the floorpan) as well as the tarmat itself from above to facilitate complete SOFTENING (not melting) of the material. I can't emphasize enough how EASY it came up for me using this method. Literally under an hour for one floorpan. Regarding the rear areas of the car. Anywhere rust is hiding, it is worth it to fix before it ruins the car. The only way to know the condition of your car is to look. Pull up the carpet and examine. Keep fingers crossed while doing so and hopefully you won't find much of a problem there!

What is it
That is the "Water Flow Control Valve"" It controls the flow of water into or NOT into the heater core. If it's leaking, you might as well replace it now while the seats are out. If you plan to remove the dash, wait and do it when the dash is out. Replace the hoses (all 3) at the same time to save yourself rooting around there again later! Just my $.02 Carl

Worn Shift Boot - your experiences
That's the one that mounts to the transmission itself. There is another one that mounts to the transmission tunnel of the body (also made of rubber) and then there is the one made from Naugha animals that mounts to the plastic console. They are called "Shifter bushings". They are a 3 piece set. The two washer style pieces isolate the shifter from the transmisssion housing and the pin that holds the shifter in place. The 3rd piece is a cap that snaps onto the "ball" end of the shifter where it fits down into the transmission.

280Z seat belts in a 240Z
Ian240: I believe that you're going to have more problems than this to deal with. The 280Z Seatbelt Retractor assy for the lap belts will not fit in the floor pockets of a 240Z. Just thought I'd bring that to your attention.

beandip: If you can wait, I have a pile of old head bolts and can send you some. I've never used them for this purpose, but if others say they fit, I guess they fit. Thread pitch reported by someone earlier in the other thread you started was 1.5 Let me know if you want any of my old head bolts for this.

Z keys
Yes, you do understand correctly. The difference is in the location of the grooves that run the length of the shaft ONLY from what I can see. I wonder if his key operates the 3 doors and the Ignition like mine or if he has separate keys for the doors and Ignition? You out there carguyinok ? The guy from OZ that I've seen selling "Taylor" brand key blanks on eBay USA, documents this difference in his auction and offers both types, BUT the head of the keys he sells isn't shaped the same (his are rectangular with corners rounded), and they say "Taylor" not the Nissan stuff that I'm looking for on a blank.

Now...This Is Very Nice
I DO understand the sentiments of all regarding it's "unmolested" status and low mileage etc., and as originally posted, if I wasn't going to drive it, I'd leave it alone (as is). But Z's are meant to be driven. "We arrrre DRIVEN!" Remember the comercial? I just can't stand to perpetuate the abomination that Datsun (Nissan) was FORCED into by the Feds. There is no way that Datsun WANTED those "things" on the car. They did it because they had a goldmine to work and this was the only way they could continue to do it until FI was ready to roll out. PS: Color Schmolor where's the Krylon! Rattle, Rattle, Rattle!:stupid: Just kidding guys

Z keys
Alfadog: Your key (pictured) does liook like an original key, however it is *slightly* different than mine. I'll try to explain, since I don't have a digi-camera to post a pic. First, the overall shape and markings of OUR keys (YOURS and MINE) are the same. If you observe your photo, you'll see that the 2 grooves that run the length of the key shaft are on the right side of the shaft and kinda in the center of the shaft as the key is shown. If my key is in the EXACT same position as yours(Key Head UP and shaft pointing DOWN), the 2 grooves that run the length of MY key are on the LEFT side and kinda in the center. Another thing different is that my key operates both doors, the hatch, AND the Ignition. :classic:

Wiper harness grommet
Hi Victor: Yes! I replaced the grommet with one that I bought from Andy Russell from Chandler, AZ It is not a Nissan item, but fits fine and looks very similar to what I remember the original looking like when it wasn't trashed by 30 years of heat, etc. You can contact Andy at z@datsundude.com The cost was a bit high for a rubber grommet, but since it was the only thing I could find and looked right to me, I paid the $18 and now I don't have to look at that UGLY lump of semi-rubber that was all that was left of my original. FWIW, I didn't pull my wiper motor, I just removed the cowel to gain room (and wire length to work with), I then released the "pins" from the connector, pulled the wires back through the old grommet and firewall, popped the new grommet in place and pushed the wires back through the new grommet, then re-installed the pins in the connector. Be very careful that you don't break the pins when doing this! Good Luck!
