  1. Early S30z's are becoming increasingly rare and more sought after. There is huge global demand and the market where they have been the cheapest for longest was North American markets. When new these cars were priced above MGs, Triumph's and Fiat's etc.. But less than Ferrari's, Maserati's, Porsche's in Australia. If you couldn't afford the last 3 you bought a 240z. A lot of Doctor's in Australia bought these cars new (seen quite a few where first owner was a Doctor / Lawyer etc.) as they had the budget for it. Unfortunately a lot over the years fell into hands of people who took less than good care of them and did some horrible modifications. If you look at Early air cooled 911's the S30z is still a great bargain and the engine was in the correct end of the car. I honestly still think they are under appreciated and under respected in many ways, just look at the ghastly things a lot of people still do to them. When finished period correct and when restored to a high level they are as beautiful as cars that are priced many times their current value. I've noticed the price of many early parts has started to go crazy, it was only a matter of time before projects like this did also.
  2. So the replica door trims didn't not fit correctly, however we tried them on a 75 Model AU delivered 260z. The door trims appeared to just have had the door lock position moved and were sold as 260z trims, but if you looked underneath you saw the depression where the lock position would be for a later 76+ S30Z (25 cm from rear of door trim). Bottom line is, I don't think anyone is making adequate replica's for earlier 260z's. However they may fit ok on later 280z's or 76+ S30 and S31's. OEM is always the best it would seem...
  3. He's happy alright.
  4. Sent him an email for an update, will let you know.

If it helps sweeten the deal for anyone, I have a 72 model FM radio I can do a swap / cash adjustment for an earlier 70 model radio? See this thread: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14298-oem-240z-head-unit-72-north-american-model-fm-radio/

I tried to bid but was too low, all bids went in, at the last 5 seconds. In fairness I would have bid higher but a few other expenses at the minute. I also noticed a small but maybe important detail the 1 on eBay was listed as: TM-1081ZB(S) But the ones I have out of AU market cars are: TM-1081ZA(S) I'm not sure what difference this makes?
  7. I'm pretty sure the 8-track was only available in Japanese market cars? Happy to be corrected though! I've seen a few in Japan but I've never seen the Clarion FM adaptor accessory for sale. I am pretty certain that the 8-track style radio's came in Fairlady Z-L's, Z432's and 240ZG's.
  8. Nice how do you get that really deep glossy finish on it? I refurbished mine but it didn't have that candy look to it. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12114-steering-wheel-clean-up/?p=144383

They are from a 72+ 240z/260z or even 280z. The steel wheels underneath may have TOPY followed by date and size information (it will be around the outer lip of the rim). What are you hoping to get for them?

Thanks, but you really shouldn't encourage me. It doesn't take much...

The Rally Clock was listed as OP (Optional Equipment). So it stays ;).

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I just want the radio itself. Happy to get it without a faceplate, or antenna switch.

Yes that's my problem, I want what is original to my 72 AU delivered 240z. Which was the earlier style unit. This is what I currently have out of a Fairlady Z-S with no antenna switch and you'll note there is no DX->LOW insignia below the tuning knob label. It certainly looks the part and I thought about just putting an antenna switch in (since I have a couple spare) but I figure if I can get the original I would. In AU market cars, all our cars from 1970-73 had the TM-1081ZA unit. You can get replacement Faceplates from 240zrubberparts.com and in fact that's exactly what I did. See thread here.

That is a later S30z unit, designed for a later dashboard / console. Interesting that you say nobody will know the difference. I had 1 of these radios and the antenna switch was exactly the same. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14212-260z-oem-head-unit-center-console-and-parker-switch/ I didn't think the Faceplate would be interchangeable but maybe you're correct? I should have tried it. I also have an earlier style Hitachi radio out of a Fairlady Z-S http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13817-hitachi-radio-model-tm-1081za-trivia/ But these look the same (minus antenna switch), however they don't have the autotune feature. So that's why I am looking for 1. Sadly although nobody else will know the difference, I still will...

Hi Everyone, Just putting a wanted ad up for an early 70 model hitachi radio. TM-1081ZA. I am looking for a radio in any condition. Will consider not working, but would prefer a working radio if available. Ideally complete with switch and faceplate, but again will consider anything you've got?
  17. I'm unfortunately yet to find a single source of truth when it comes to these various part finder websites I'm afraid. I guess if it were easy it wouldn't be so fun.
  18. I'm just curious where you're going to get NLA for a particular part no. Often when I do a Google Search for a part no. I get a few websites that seem to indicate I can order an item through them, but I know many of the items are NLA. I find that Courtesy Nissan is usually a pretty good indicator of what is and isn't available anymore. But I've never actually tried ordering through them when a part no. says it's order-able :). Are you just using your local dealer? Sadly in Australia we have a very hit and more times miss experience when dealing with local dealers for S30z parts, but in fairness I've never actually gone to them with part no's before and that may help?
  19. Just saw those photos you added to the thread, that is definitely a later S31 because the Niles style clock came with later S31's. As a side note I'm told those clocks are not that great compared with the earlier "CITIZEN" version. I've never seen the power mirror set up, very cool. I just sent you a PM, but for the benefit of everyone else potentially researching this in future, it appears that the clip positioning of the earlier trims vs the later ones is different. It's not just the lock hole. This appears to be where the reproduction ones (earlier style) have failed us. Hence my question to see what others experience was / is with reproduction items. I believe the later style ones (reproductions) should be fine, but the earlier style ones designed to suit a 260z may not be. At least that's my experience so far..I posted some pictures from the AU market microfiche showing the different part no.s and what years they are applicable to. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13762-260z-door-cards-for-early-260zs/?p=173019
  20. I'm not 100% sure I'd have to check the JDM parts manuals to confirm that and sadly I don't have those.
  21. I'm actually not 100% sure if it's a power window or power mirror button. The later S30z's in Japan had fender mirrors with electric motors so you could adjust their position in the cabin, but I don't actually know where the adjustment switch was located. It could have been the door trims!
  22. I ordered a rebuild set via them because I wanted to rebuild them myself, but I sort of regret that decision now. Problem for me is AUD vs USD makes them super expensive
  23. The first set were NOS and were worth every penny. That's what they sell for in Japan in that sort of shape. There is a huge difference between what people will pay for NOS vs good condition used. In Japan in particular I've seen insane prices for stuff just because it's NOS and never used. I've seen Kanto Seiki washer bottles sell for $400 USD, along with rear licence plate lamp's also selling for a similar price. There is an Ashtray asking $550 - $750 USD (Buy it now) on eBay. Thing is they are NLA. So whatchagonnado?
  24. Just wondering if anyone here has fit a pair of replica door trims and has any feedback on how well they fit?
  25. I have the pattern yes, but I need to find the right material and gauge metal. Do you know if they are made of alloy? If anyone can tell me the thickness I'll probably just order raw material to make more.
