No Mike but i do plan on doing it, I was too scared of the shock I might receieve through the crappy Top Gun leads if they decided to go to the easiest path of flow and Zap me again. I have rubber gloves at home and I was at my mates place, I left the car there for now. I felt all 250,000 volts last time hehe cause the lead was of poor quality and was trying to get it to sit on properly. Anyway I'll keep you updated I have a feeling that it could be the distributor it self I hope not. Not alot can really go wrong with them, the coil is a new model bosch unit. So is there a condenser on the electronic dizzies? Or were you referring to the points type? Also do dizzy caps between electronic and points type interchange I have a spare dizzy cap at home but I think there different would you know?

No I haven't which capacitor are we talking about? There is none on the side of the dizzy because it's electronic, I'm hoping it's not the black little unit on the side of it there worth a staggering $800. The rotor cap is pretty shot hence the reason I was trying to chase one the other day. I think the new rotor button was less worn and was able to extend that bit futher to the points in the cap and therefore the reason the car hasn't played up. I will try locate the thread you are talking about. The alternator seems fine I had plenty of charge in the battery I turned the car over and over and over. However I did notice while driving the AMP meter was in the positive direction something i never took note of before??? Hmmm.
  4. for #13 Purple and Turtle???? does anyone think they rhyme?

I've seen a Blue 280zx Turbo in Melbourne it was a nice car. Think it was still a 2+2 never saw it get driven or talked to the owner so can't really comment.:classic:

The P90 is not essential but prefered a N42 is almost the same in many ways and I think Ben was saying the first 280zx's had the n42 on it. The P79 also had the same design but I think something on the exhaust ports to stop emissions forgot there name but apparently they hurt flow but then again there's no real proof of that. The E88 can be used for turboing I think a guy in the states did alot of custom work as it's what he does for a living and pushes 500hp out of his L28 E88 combo. Keep in mind the P90 will be set up for the EFI manifold already. A guy here in Melbourne is using an N42 and the head has been custom drilled for extra cooling and less chance of blowing a head gasket.

new update! Ok so i'm driving along to a friends house and as I turn into his street I notice the tacho is dead and the engine has completely stopped. I let it roll down the street towards his house. Stop and try and start nothing just turns over it's very cold and I get out and use the famous inspection lamp thanks Nissan . I remember someone saying to check the distributor connection but nothing, fuel doesn't seem to be an issue. I've recently replaced the rotor button and the distributor cap looks worse for wear and could be the issue here. Tried turning the engine over for ages no luck what so ever, I don't like it's leads or spark plugs at all. The fuses are all good is there anything under the dash that could cause the car to just cut out? a fusible link?? I'm completely stumped, not to mention the car was in similar cold weather on the day it happened as it was tonight so i'm not sure if that's anything to do with it. Help.

  15. I dunno if there genuine minilites or not but they were a bit thing in the 60-70's etc.. I'd go with saying they are minilites they look old enough. Superlites George are what yours had just like my car. http://www.superlite-wheels.com/ here is a link to mine http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2263&password=&sort=7&thecat=500

No i hadn't yet Nick I had left the car a whole week not wanting to drive it because I had planned a tune valve adjustment and oil and filter change. I needed it that weekend to make it to a my University expo day because I was interested in a mechanical engineering course and was gonna find out about it talk about bad luck :stupid: . Anyway I have bought a feeler blade and valve cover gasket in preperation for it but had never got around to it. My theory on what happened is something like this. I noticed the dizzy rotor button and cap were fairly worn out and there was a build up on the middle of the rotor button that may have influenced poor ignition. The carbs were running rich and in traffic it fouled up and caused the car to backfire thru the carbs possibly from the valve clearance.(causing the bang I heard) then the smoke out the intake. So far so good I drove the car around yesterday all day and replaced rotor button leaned off the carbs on both sides half a turn car seems a bit nicer to drive aswell. I have to still get dizzy cap it's got new spark leads and plugs also. The compression seems ok and no water has been lost. for the water out the exhaust it had rained in between trying to get the thing started again and calling friends to pick me up or give me ideas on what it could have been. This could be the cause of the watery exhaust because the exhaust points upwards into the air out the back of the car. The car cutting out could have been ignition or just getting too fouled up and choking. I still would like to pull the head replace valve stem seals possibly inspect anything and look into a more aggressive camshaft profile. I have holidays in a week so it will be a good time to do some catch up maintenance.
  17. I always thought this was for parking so that people can see your car at night easier, dunno that's just what i was told.

Thing is we never had a ZX turbo in Australia and we have a couple of private imports but i've never driven one to really comment on them. I've never really liked the look of the ZX myself compared with the earlier cars but we don't have any model other than 2+2 and the 2 seaters arn't common here either. So all i have to go by is pictures and what others say over the forums . All that aside your ZX is one of the better ones I've seen. I'm sure it goes pretty well and turbo cars are pretty fun. I've driven a mates VL turbo(RB30 Turbo) in a car that weighs a couple of hundred kilo's than a ZX even and it went ok with 5 guys in it . So don't worry too much

Actually the PO did have tripples on it :classic: . I have the twin SU's running and there the most practical when it gets driven daily to Uni and in traffic ouch tripples :tapemouth . I will be pulling the engine head soon most likely these holidays from Uni in about 1 week and may take it to get some head work done and install a larger camshaft I want that lumpy just idle cam hehe. Not sure what my comp ratio is I always thought 10:1 with all cylinders on 180 PSI. I don't know how to tell what ratio that gives. Might not be high enough for the size cam I'd like . I also have to address some pinging I think the distributor needs a bit of adjustment to get it fixed up. Would like to get it on a dyno but thinking abuot all those things makes me feel broke all ready .

Sorry to hear but I'm after a non vented bonnet, Nissan wants $700 for one brand new :tapemouth . I have a vented bonnet that is in excellent condition no rust and never bent. I do have a non vented bonnet but it was damaged by people who can't park their cars . Post pictures anyway for someone else who might be interested.:cheeky:
  21. no but there was a guy selling all the bits you'd need for a turbo set up. exhaust manifold, intake manifold etc... was in the for sale section check it out. I'd love to buy it but once my poor Australian money is converted and the items shipped here I'm a little worse for wear than what he is asking.

Completely agree I found that i would get a bit lazy with my resto and things like this would soon get me going again. I also think it's good to keep involved with a club and see cars of members to keep the incentive and motivation. I remember seeing a friends turbo 240z and after that night I basically stripped the Z down over a 4 week period. :classic:

it would do us a great deal of help if you could state the following: Make Model Year Induction system (FI , CARBS etc). Ignition system. for starters anyway it could be so many things based on what you've just told us.
