  1. I tried everyones method apart from the angle grinder, thankfully never had too. I finally used a big screwdriver with a flat head and gently prised it and it gave way.. I notice that the inside of the oil pan, looks painted black, but this paint is worn off in many places.. Is this normal or has someone painted mine on the inside. I'm goign to strip it bare as I dont think paint in the oil is a good thing.. One more question please. while the oil pan is off I can see the strainer, how do i go about cleaning this, i'm not sure it needs cleaning but may as well do it seeing its now accessible. Thanks..

  4. Hi all, I have removed all the screws, given the thing a good few hard wacks with a block of wood and a hammer and still it wont come off.. Haynes says not to use a screwdriver to prise it off, so I have run out of ideas.. Thanks...

  7. I was just reading a repair guide for the 240z and learnt something i didn't know before... I just wanted to share it and maybe start a dialogue about it.. Apparently, the Left and Right suspension coil springs on the front suspension are of different length.. I had no idea. The left spring free length is: 373.5mm (22.72in) The right spring free length is: 386.0mm (23.56in) Apparently if you get the springs on the wrong way round it can have an adverse effect on your suspension geometry. I wonder how many Z's have them the wrong way round and are handling badly with their owners wondering whats causing this.. (especially after restoring their front suspension, increasing the probability of the springs getting crossed over). Since I have coilovers I dont think it matters that the springs are the same length but would it mean that the left side should be moved up a few notches... Does anyone know why the springs aren't the same length, what exactly are they compensating for?? Thanks

  10. I was told that if you leave the engine running while the cleaning is being done, I shouldnt experience any problems? I have EFI installed in the car, which may not help matters... What are your views/experiences? Should I go for it or do I have to painstakingly use a damp sponge and do a bit at a time :sleepy: Also, what is exactly steam cleaning, a local car wash firm near me say they do steam cleaning. When i watched someone elses car being done, it seemed as if it ws just the jet hose .. no different to the jet house they use to wash the exterior of the car... I was hoping to see steam Thanks

    Can anyone confirm if the stock Z 5 speed shifter knob could be ordered with a green logo on the top showing the gear pattern grid. I know the 4 speed logo could come like that, but I'm not sure if the 5 speed ever did?
  13. I read on Hybrid Z that some Jaguar shift knobs fit the thread of the Z shifter stick perfectly... I dont know which years and model of jaguar will work. (Maybe someone else knows). This is the pic of the shift knob which is supposed to work. It may not be to everyones taste, but it is different if thats what your looking for
  14. I have been trying to find screws that hold the plastic covers which go on both sides of the seats. I can find the correct width of screw but I can't seem to find the correct thread anywhere.. Does anyone have any spare? Or know where i can get the correct ones? I dont want to force an incorrectly threaded screw as this will damage the threads in the metal base the cover screws onto.. Any help will be most appreciated..
  15. You are lucky enough to own a very early production 240Z. If you can afford it, please get it repaired professionally. The car will be worth more and hold its value if repaired right. A few Z enthusiasts would sell their granny's for such a low vin number.. Good luck and it all sounds straight forward to a good shop with the right tools and the skill.

    Check out my gallery, my car is a stock metallic green 113. It's not everyones taste but I like it Metallic blue is nice too.. I have seen dark green Z's but they dont really do it for me... I think it was mperdue who constructed a web page showing z's of all (stock) colors. Maybe someone can post the link up as I cant find it right now, it may give you a few more ideas.

  19. I definitely recommend getting a Haynes manual, I hope you will not need to use it often but it has helped me out many a time... For starters it shows you with diagrams the correct place to put the stands and jack.. Far easier then anyone can try and explain it. (I too was worried like you to begin with...) Very easy once you learn the safe positions. I would definitely also recommend you using a garage jack rather then the scissor one.. Hope you get the problem fixed and have many more years of trouble free motoring :) Good luck.

  21. I have never heard of this conversion being done before, I am sure it can be achieved (where theres a will, theres a way) but I don't think it will be easy. For starters I imagine there to be alot of wire cutting and loom modifying to do... and if your'e not confident working with electrics its best to leave well alone, as a fire is very easy to achieve.. Maybe someone else can fill you in with better details and their views.. If you do choose to do it all the best and good luck! And please post the pics!!

  23. Thanks for sharing those pics with us. Great photos and good introductions :) Looks like a nice, clean place. I must have missed a thread, I remember you were going to sell the car and move to Hong Kong, so has that happened already? Or are you mearly travelling to see if you like the place? I notice in all the shots the media has shown us of Hong Kong has been of the whole populace wearing masks, due to the threat of SARS. Whats the situation like? Hope you like the place and are having fun.

    Glad you found us, Great to hear there are Z's in Malaysia, I had no idea. It would be especially good to also see your Dad's car in your gallery. Both cars sound mighty fine :D. I nearly forgot to say that I'm with Alfa on this, it is dispicable (isnt that Sylvester the cats line?) that they have a snobbery for Jap cars, it also use to be the case (getting better now) in the UK with the Datsun name.
