If you ever want to get every small detail just so give me a ring or drop me a line.

From the Archives Glad to see Paul Taylor's name mentioned. After all, It was his car. About a month ago a customer wanted me to give Paul's 240 a look @ the Carolina shop that was trying to sell it for , as I remember, $110000.00ish. In the end the parties decided that it wasn't the right car for my customer. Thanks, Zed

Zed, Your scenarios make perfect sense. How can I make such a statement? First hand, Datsun dealer, experiences not unlike the possibilities you laid-out.

Many clearly don't have a clue about the inner workings of an early 70s Datsun dealer. The correct - keeping the customers car and happiness in mind - would have been to see that the first shaft was incorrect and reordering the correct part. The comp dept in those days was, based on my first hand experiences, always very helpful. Perhaps there were other forces at work.

I remember very well the 2000 roadster 5 speeds. I remember them because about 20% had a loose main shaft nut from the factory and we mechanics, at least those of us that had attended trans school, had to repair them under warranty. Given that the engine and trans came out as a unit the repair was a long and very unprofitable operation to say the least!

That is one strange drive shaft. Never seen one like it, what a mess.

Zed, I have to thank you for phrasing your response the way you did. Given the abrasive times in which we live such language is indeed a breath of fresh air. Of course, one can do most anything they want to or with their car of any heritage. I was just exposing my druthers. I generally drive my old machines 500 or so miles per year and want to look good while at the same time being confident that I won't say to myself when 200 miles from home "what's that funny noise". Cheers

Sorry, I got the positions reversed. For many years I lived in Laurel, MD. Laurel is on the original B&O line between DC and Baltimore. This is the line along which Morse laid the first telegraph line. Laurel had a 4-5 block shopping district on the appropriately named "Main St". I came out of a Main St. business in about 1974 to see white 2000GT in front of one of the businesses. I guess it was an almost daily driver. Imagine.

Has anyone seen the Lexus tv commercial where a woman is parallel parking her SUV from her seat in a restaurant? Some sort of self parking system. Anyway, The car in front of her SUV is the contemporary Toyota supercar , can't remember the name. I can certainly remember the name of the car behind hers - 2000GT!
