Hmmm. Well I suppose I thought that those who were indeed members of both would say 'why is this silly boomer posting the same thing on both forums'.

I don't know if it is the same mirror, but it was a Motorsports 'Turbo' mirror that I installed many years ago. They looked and worked OK for a few years, until sun exposure destroyed the rubber 'bellows'. If you garage your Z, I'm sure you will do better than I did.

I've been a member of HybridZ for many years, and only recently joined this form after finding some hits on a google search for a specific problem. I have found both places to be useful and friendly to me. And of course, several good people are members of both. I've been on other (non-Z) forums where some people like to play 'king-of-the-hill' and chide you for various nitpicky items. HybridZ has a fabrication and welding section, which was helpful while I was in that phase of my restoration, but I think the same expertise exists here. Now I'm in the paint and reassembly mode.

I wish I had just kept the original mirror. I did look at the BRE mirrors, but as mentioned, they are a bit pricey, and I don't like that they stick out so far. Grannyknot - did you just keep the original, or go with something else?

Has anyone tried the Motorsport Flush Mounted Mirrors (http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic02e03/50-1160). I replaced the original years ago, because I wanted two matching outside mirrors. Those turned to crap. Any other suggestions? I don't like the fender-mount mirrors at all. Thanks, Robert

A couple of years ago, I tried to run down the old club as well, and did end up with the name of a mechanic here in Houston. I even spoke with him on the phone, but sorry to say, I have no further information. Good luck with your A/C.

I like the thread idea. I once managed to flip the clevis pin out of my grasp, and had it disappear behind the kick panel - twice.

My quarter panel was rusted around the bottom edge of the filler area, but I didn't have any damage on the recessed area. It looks like to me that the 'natural' drainage would merely flow out and down the outside of the quarter panel. I wouldn't think your nipple would be at any lower point than the outer edge of that recess.

I bought this car new, here in Houston, in 1976, and drove it until 1982, when it was then mostly garaged. I woke it up in 2000, had it painted yellow, and did some suspension upgrades, and it was again driven regularly for a few years by my sons. Then it sat in my driveway from 2006, where rain and failing weatherstripping took its toll. The fenders, cowl cover, floors, frame rails, rockers, lower doors, lift gate, and quarters rusted through. I moved it into the garage 3 years ago and began work on it.

OK thanks guys. I'll go ahead and spray color on the cowl, and if I don't like that I'll just rattle-can some black beneath the cover louvers. And let me warn you - if you hear of a 'Houston car', it likely means that it has been under water!

First, let me say 'hi' - I'm new here, but I've been on HybridZ for a few years. I'm painting my 280Z Grabber Blue (a mustang color), and I've read some interesting discussions here about painting. The car is in primer now (a light gray), and I'm curious about the cowl area under the cover. I had to patch some swiss-cheesy areas there, and what I didn't patch I sprayed with POR, and it's now all covered in primer. I've seen in this forum that the factory originally left the cowl in primer, and also that others have painted it black. I was going to paint it with the blue, but now I wonder if that won't look good to see the blue through the louvers in the cover. If so, I suppose I can always rattle-can some black on there, or should I just leave it in primer? Thanks in advance...
