  1. I think Enigma meant S130, not S31, but he is correct that the discussions around here don't contain much information on engine swaps.
  2. Now that is funny... "432 cubic inches, wow" I wonder how he thought they fit that much displacement in such a small block? He must have thought "those guys can miniaturize anything!" For those visitors who don't actually get the joke, search for KATS' threads on that car.
  3. I guess you could in theory prime the system that way, but you still have to remove the oil pump to replace the distributor shaft, which mostly negates the whole "priming" thing doesn't it? It might be easier to just pull the spark plugs, and disconnect the fuel line, then crank the engine to prime the system and check the operation of the oil pump. Oh, and on the TDC issue, the distributor will only go on the drive shaft in one position. It is REALLY easy to get that shaft in wrong. I have done it. The distributor does not have enough adjustment to allow you to compensate for the drive shaft being off by even a single tooth. Personally, I bought a new oil pump when I put the engine back together, just to be sure.

If you download the PDF from that site, it mentions the Datsun only in Group 8, and the over 2 Liter cars are Class C. But Group 8 only extends up to 1972. Group 6 class C might also apply. Perhaps you should specifically ask someone in that group.

So, what shop is doing the work may I ask? Some day, in the distant future, I may want to improve upon my 20 foot paint job.
  6. Looks like he was using a digital camera with the flash turned off. I have that problem a lot with the small digital cameras, they just don't have enough light gathering capability. Nice car by the way.

More likely the work that he did was to replace the timing chain just to see if that would fix the problem. I have seen engines damaged in the manor you describe with belt driven cams when the belt breaks. I don't know if the timing chain can break as well, or if someone just installed it wrong, cranked it over a couple of times, then corrected the installation problem when it would not start.
  9. Cool, an expensive way to reduce the range and practicality of your Z car even further!
  10. I recall seeing Nissan Cubes in Japan a couple of years ago. I wasn't very impressed at the time. There was a Nissan dealer at a car show our local club supported in Muncie this spring that had a Cube, and I was really impressed at the amount of room inside the car. From the inside it is very upright and roomy, like a 4 door pickup truck without the bed. (FWD however...) It resembles a downsized Ford Flex, for about half the price. (Appropriate since it is half the size.) I fear that I may have a new "ignore" person on the site soon... (Steve knows who I mean. Sorry to say.)
  11. If the engine is running correctly, check it again in about 3000 miles. I have heard that sometimes it takes a while for even correctly machined valves to "seat" fully. I don't know how accurate that story actually is, but I have heard it more than once.
