  1. Of course there is always envy and resentment directed toward the big dog on the block. The dogs with less power and lower status want to be on top, and are waiting for a sign of weakness to attack. They resent the ability of the more powerful to get first pick of all the goodies and being forced to take sloppy seconds. Pretty much the same with all species. If you think we're much different than any other species on this account, think again. There is no altruism here, we just want to make other peoples into our image, because we know that we have the ultimate and most noble system of government and feel that other countries need to be forced to our way thinking for their own good. We know what's right, darn it! Why do people think we Americans are so arrogant? We only want them to have a system that is as superior as ours is. After all, we are constantly telling the world how great we are and how much more goodies we have. Why don't they learn. While I'm being a bit sarcastic, these really are a few of the reasons so many people resent us. While they admire our power and recognize some of the good we have done, they quite naturally become fearful and resentful when we start throwing our weight around, as in the present Iraqi crisis. Many countries think: "are we next on the US agenda"? They see clearly that we want to do whatever we want whether the UN approves or disapproves. And they know no one can stop us. Now that I have dropped a pearl of wisdom, why can't we just arrange assassination of any Iraqi leadership we disaprove of, instead of going to all the expense and collateral damage(can you imagine someone telling the US "we will try to minimize the number of your children we kill, so just remember we're nice guys") of a war. Much more efficient and we at least wouldn't be murdering non combatants. But then I guess the d*** Cheneys(Haliburton) of our country wouldn't be able to make any money from the war effort. He's lickn' his chops! In summary, lets lift our leg on the UN and make the world right. That cynical enough? Shouldn't talk religion or politics unless you want to make enemies.
  2. No Mr. Camouflage, it was the spaghetti stains and the switchblade.

    Maybe you mean circumference?
  4. Because of another thread you posted, I talked to Jeff Winter about my triple Weber problems and he was unbelievably helpful over the phone. Answered all my questions. Extremely knowledgable and friendly attitude. Rare. Thanks, Victor.
  5. tanny Not very original. Around 1900 Italian immigrant grandfather changed his name from Iannidinardo to Tanny(Irish) to try to fit into the Irish neighborhood where they lived. I inherited the name in 1950. Vic Tanny's gyms, bla, bla, bla. Exciting. Let me take a guess at Bambikiller reasons: You like to kill those poor little soft eyed yearlings and forks. Excellent! Great eating. Sorry if I'm wrong and you are a vegan and belong to PETA. I worked for Colorado Div. of Wildlife for 20 years(raising trout) and take great pleasure from hunting and fishing. Great moniker. Oops, didn't realize the name was your car. Guess you must have hit a deer at some point.
  6. Everyone had some excellent bits of advice, especially escanlon when he says that future employers want to see that piece of paper showing you've run the gauntlet. Like escanlon says, the 4 year degree shows the employer that you have persevered, are able to set a goal and give up some things to get what you want. One false assumption is that you will somehow become more "intelligent" once you have obtained your degree. Totally wishful thinking. Maybe more knowledgeable in a very narrow field, but not more intelligent. The degree is this society's pass to more opportunity. I agree that if you don't complete your college now, it is usually much harder to do it once you receive all of life's responsibilities. But this also means that if you avoid doing what you really love to do(auto mechanics or whatever) now, you may get snagged into some profession(and feel obligated to stay in that profession because of family responsibilities) that you don't really like as much, and may make great money, etc., but you can be guaranteed you will always regret or at least wonder what it would have been like to do what you truly love and have fun doing. Always do what you love to do(providing it doesn't fry your brain permanently or give you more than a few minor STD's), NOT necessarily what people think you should do, however well intentioned they are. As a parent of two teenagers, I would never think of discouraging my kids from persuing a technical career, if that was what they showed a great love and aptitude for. I went to college in the sixties, and if I could remember, I'm sure everything they say is true about having fun at college. Good luck, and make sure you maintain a sense of humor, the most valuable asset of all.
  7. Yes, an increase in bodily fat percentage will make you float more easily, since fat is less dense than muscle tissue. Definitely an evolutionary advantage when lost at sea(not to mention the insulation value and energy reserves that increase with increasing fat). Also, the fat will take up more volume per pound than muscle tissue, so circumference will probably have to increase if height does not increase. Later.

One more question on the soldering: Do you have to clear some paint from around the hole to give the solder purchase, or is the thickness of the metal around the hole enough surface for the solder to adhere to? Never have done any bodywork at all except a few small clumps of bondo and spray paint.
  9. Not FAT person! Circumferally challenged.

    Thanks everyone. Victor.
  11. Do both of the stock front coil springs on a 240 have the same specs or are they different from each other? Also, what are the uncompressed lengths of the stock front and rear springs? Thanks, Victor.
  12. tanny replied to tanny's topic in Body & Paint
No, the thin stock strips(I think they're stock or dealer applied) along the side of the car that are black and chrome and maybe 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 inch high that run the length of the car at door handle height. Thanks, Victor.

I need to take off the decorative side moulding strips to paint the 240. How are they attached and are there preferred removal and reattachment techniques? Same question for the emblems. Thanks, Victor.
  14. Should have sued Dunkn Doughnuts for that too hot coffee. Swelling isn't a bad thing if it's the right spot.
  15. Took me an hour to realize that my thoughts were turning sinful, so I had to turn off the computer to save my soul. Well, maybe it was my wife approaching and asking what was so interesting on the computer.

Just remember that living with someone in NO WAY prepares you for what or who they turn into after you're married. Everything is wonderful when you're in lust and are not yet bound by the marriage commitment. Familiarity and the golden ring can breed contempt, but on the other hand, some of the possible benefits(kids, good companionship, etc.) can outweigh many of the negatives(not being able to be totally selfish, no free time, being criticised for your many drawbacks, being fiancially sensible). The importance of the car may just be an indication that you still need to get the me, me, me out of your system and aren't ready yet for the us, us, us deal. No shame in that. Have a blast getting the me, me, me out, and then you won't feel so tethered when you do settle down. And if you think one woman is the only one for you, WRONG! There are literally millions you can have a good life with, so don't ever feel pressured to take the jump. Hows that for a bunch of cr_p to solve all your problems? Good luck and try to have as much fun as possible.
  17. Is there anyone out there that has or knows someone who has triple webers on a 240 and maybe lives at high altitude(above 5000 feet so that I may see what type of jetting they have for the thin air. A carburetor specialist that has worked on webers at high altitude and remembers the jetting? I live at 6500 feet. Thanks, Victor.
  18. tanny replied to Ed's topic in Open Chit Chat
I believe the term two stage means that the pressure is increased in two stages, and apparently this allows a greater volume of air at higher pressures. As you've probably found out, two stage is much more expensive than single stage, will require wiring the garage for 220 if not already wired, and two stage is probably unnecessary for the average home mechanic. Nice to have though if you can afford it.
  19. Escanlon, I grew up in southern Cal and every 10 years when it snowed 3 inches, the highways became wrecking yards and school was out. I've now lived in Colorado for 25 years and have finally learned to slow down after sledding into a couple of ditches in the winter and snuffing a few Bambis in the summer.
  20. Is there anyone out there that has triple Weber DCOE 40-18 carbs on a 240 that lives at higher altitude(above 5000) and knows what jetting has worked well? Thanks, Victor
  21. EScanlon, My daughter is looking into going to Western Washington University next fall. Wants to major in Marine Biology. Have you heard anything about it? Opinion? What's the area like? Her and mom may visit the campus the end of March. Is Geocities garage the name of the website where 2manyzs posted his advice? Thanks. Victor.
  22. I read that if you replace the points distributor with a 1975-1983 D2 distributor with a E12-80 module, the 240 tach won't work. Is this true, and are there any work arounds to get the 240 tack to work with this setup? Thanks, Vic.

Was driving on some muddy roads yesterday and noticed that splashes were getting into engine compartment up on the inner fenders, etc. Did 240s come with any metal splash guards underneath the front suspension and engine compartment? Thanks, Victor.

Anyone know of a weber carb specialist in Denver and/or Albuquerque? Thanks, Victor.
  25. Thanks, Victor.
